A pet is an important part of the family and loyal companion you can rely on. According to the 2018 Petplan Census 41% of owners refer to their pet as their best friend and so we want to make sure they are healthy, happy and cared for. However, emergencies can happen at any moment and often when you least expect it. It’s important to have a plan in place ready, something Sharon experienced first-hand with Boris, her three-year-old Hungarian Viszla.
“You need to be mindful that these sort of emergencies, just like in humans, can happen at any point."
Described as her third, rather furry, child, Boris and Sharon are an inseparable duo. He is caring, sensitive and is always there for Sharon, supporting her through the tough times where she had struggled with her own health problems. He’s been a loveable friend to the whole family and known for eating anything in sight… socks, sunglasses and jewellery to name just a few!
While out on a walk, Boris ran off and explored with his usual bouncy energy. However, it was clear to Sharon when they got home that something wasn’t right. He was acting very out of character and his health started to deteriorate fast. She rushed him to the vet, only to be told that they had found a tennis ball stuck within his intestines. Sharon feared the worst.
“It felt like my world had turned upside down and the thought of not having him was devastating."
Due to the financial support she had from her policy with Petplan, Boris went into surgery and made a full recovery. Sharon and Boris are now closer than ever and she cherishes every moment she spends with her best friend. Back to his usual self, Boris has since won a ‘waggiest tail’ competition at a charity dog show, and has hopefully laid his legendary eating habits to rest!
“Don’t take your pet for granted because they’re such a big part of your life… it made our bond even stronger!”
This life-changing surgery saved Boris’ life and wouldn’t have been possible without Petplan.
