What we thought…
Being based in an office setting, we often find ourselves sat in the same position at our desk for hours on end. So it’s common for us to experience a few minor aches and pains from time to time.
So we were delighted to receive our very own HoMedics Gel Shiatsu Back Massage Cushion and couldn’t wait to put it to the test.
For a professional one-hour massage, you can expect to part with at least £40 – which can soon add up if done regularly. And while £199 seems like a lot of money to spend out in one go, investing in this appliance will pay dividends in the long run. Plus, it’s so durable that it also comes with a three-year manufacturer’s guarantee too – so you really can get your money’s worth.
This appliance has three different massage options, each lasting 15 minutes. The Yours team favourite is the shiatzu, where the gel nodes mimic the feel and motions of human palms working their way up and down your back. This mode has such an impressive intensity that feels almost as good as the real thing and great for getting to those tight knotty areas! It also makes a great option if you’re not quite comfortable with a stranger giving you an actual massage.
For something a little less intense, the rolling massage programme – as the name would suggest – has a similar sensation of someone firmly rolling their hands up and down your back. Perfect if you’re generally feeling a bit achey.
In addition to this, the remote also features a total of ten different settings for focusing on specific areas, increasing intensity and speed and adjusting the width. If you’re unsure which setting is best for you, pressing the ‘demo’ button gives you a taster of each one, highlighting each button on the remote as you experience it.
We also love the heat option - which is especially soothing in the winter months if you’re prone to suffering from stiff joints during a cold spell.
Its strapping system keeps the massager firmly in place and the seat itself is compatible with most chairs and can even be used on the sofa when watching TV.
Overall verdict: This gadget provides light, convenient relief from stress and tension in your back and shoulders and is a far cheaper alternative to regular massages at a spa.
