If you’re a fan of The Crown then you’re in for a treat. Season one of the much-praised series, starring Claire Foy, Matt Smith and Dame Eileen Atkins, is out now on DVD.
Queen Elizabeth II is a 25-year-old newlywed facing the daunting prospect of leading the world's most famous monarchy while forging a relationship with legendary Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill.
The British Empire is in decline, the political world is in disarray, and a young woman takes the throne - a new era is dawning. Peter Morgan's masterfully researched scripts reveal the Queen's private journey behind the public facade with daring frankness.
To mark the DVD’s release a flavour of the royal household was served to 50 recently as the St Ermin’s Hotel in St James’ Park, London, laid on a six-course re-interpretation of Queen Elizabeth II’s 1953 Coronation Banquet. The menu included langoustine and a reworking of the Queen’s favourite dessert, Chocolate Perfection Pie – a chocolate mousse with cinnamon cream and meringue in the form of an edible crown.
