We're spoilt for choice when it comes to streaming services these days. From Netflix to Prime Video, there's a plethora of TV and films at our fingertips, so it's no surprise ITV have their own streaming service, ITVX.

As well as allowing you to catch up with any ITV shows plus exclusive streaming only content, from the end of April 2024, ITVX will also incorporate BritBox, offering an even wider range of content, including BBC boxsets.

BritBox was originally launched as a joint venture from BBC and ITV, with the latter buying the BBC out later on. When ITVX launched in 2022, BritBox content moved to ITVX Premium. From April 30th, BritBox content will only be available on ITVX or iPlayer.

This means the BritBox app, which you might still have on your Amazon Firestick or tv, or on your Smart TV, will stop working.

What about my BritBox subscription?

If you have a current BritBox subscription, it's likely you'll have heard from ITVX already. All subscribers will automatically be switched over to an ITVX Premium subscription - which is confirmed to stay priced at £5.99 a month or £59.99 a year. This will allow ad-free streaming.

If you've not opted to make the switch, all remaining subscriptions will automatically be cancelled when BritBox closes. Of course, you can watch ITVX content via your Smart TV, laptop or other device for free, with adverts.

What is ITVX?

Launching back in December 2022, ITV's online home, ITVX set out to compete with the bigger streaming giants like Disney+ and Netflix. With the ever-evolving streaming landscape, ITVX are now a firm competitor, bringing BritBox content to the platform as well.

ITVX also allows you to catch up on all your favourite TV shows and soaps as well as offering a whole host of new shows exclusive to ITVX that you can't watch on TV.

How to watch

Like most streaming services, you'll need to be connected up to the internet to watch ITVX. The easiest way to access it is on your laptop or tablet. Just head to itv.com where you can access all the latest shows. Alternatively, you can also download the ITVX app for easier and quicker access.

If you prefer to watch your favourite shows on a big screen like a 50-inch TV or even a 60 inch TV, you can also stream on your smart TV. Just select the ITVX icon on your home screen. As well as streaming it on your TV, you can also use your gaming device like an Xbox, a Huawei device, Chromecast, Roku streaming player or a NOW smart stick or box or Amazon Fire Stick to stream.

You should be able to use the above methods to access the service as long as your smart TV or device was made after 2016. If your TV was manufactured before 2016, then the only way to access ITVX would be to use an additional device such as a Firestick to stream.

How much does ITVX cost?

You can stream ITVX for free with ads. If you prefer to watch shows add free while gaining access to a wider range of TV shows and content from Britbox then you can subscribe for £5.99 per month or £59.99 per year.

What to watch on ITVX

Some current highlights include ITVX's adaptation of Jane Austen's unfinished novel, Sanditon. There's three series worth to binge on. Drama Trigger Point, starring Vicky McClure, is also a great watch, and you can catch up on popular shows you may have missed, such as Broadchurch, or Mr Bates Vs the Post Office

Family drama series Riches is also a popular, following the successful Richards family after the death of their patriarch.

Another ITVX exclusive is A Spy Among Friends. Not only does this series feature a stellar line up, it's also based on the book of the same name (we always love a good book adaptation).
