Eric "Ricky" Tomlinson was born in Bispham Blackpool, on the 26th September 1939, making him 84 years old currently.

Where does Ricky Tomlinson live?

He was raised in Liverpool and still resides there now. In numerous interviews, he has mentioned that he loves the city and will never move elsewhere.

When Ricky Tomlinson was young (23), he married his first wife, Marlene Tomlinson and they stayed together until 1986.

Since 2003, he has been married to Rita Cumiskey.

Ricky lives with a chronic skin disorder called prurigo nodularis, where hard, itchy bumps appear on the skin. In 2006, he had a quadruple heart bypass surgery.

Bobby Grant (played by Tomlinson) was an original and regular character on the Channel 4 soap opera Brookside, which ran from 1983 to 2003.

Most of Bobby's dialogue and storylines were written by screenwriter and producer Jimmy McGovern, who has created many highly acclaimed dramas, including The Street and Moving On, as well as the prison drama Time on BBC One.

Ricky left Brookside in 1988, after being written out of the series.

Ricky Tomlinson in The Royle Family

The Royle Family is a popular sitcom about a television-obsessed family that first aired in 1998. It was created and written by Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash, who also appear as a couple in the show.

Ricky plays Jim Royle, the head of the family and Sue Johnston is his wife, Barbara Royle. Other cast members include Ralf Little, Sheridan Smith, Jessica Hynes and Joanne Froggatt.

Ricky Tomlinson Gogglebox

Did you know that The Royle Family was the inspiration behind Channel 4's Gogglebox? It was originally narrated by the late Caroline Aherne, before Craig Cash took over in 2013.

In 2023, Ricky actually appeared alongside his friend and former castmate Sue Johnston on episodes of Celebrity Gogglebox.
