Winter nights wouldn’t be complete without fleece bedding sets to keep us warm. Though fleece bedding sets can provide comfort and save us a little on the heating bills, the quality and characteristics can vary. At Yours, we’ve made it our priority to help you find the best bed linens for those quiet nights spent indoors. If you can’t bear the cold, then these are the bedding sets for you…

Perhaps, you’re thinking: Does a fleece bedding set really keep you warmer? The answer is yes. A synthetic fabric, fleece is made from polyester and other similar materials, coming with great insulating properties. Similar to a weighted blanket, fleeces are on the heavier side, too. Due to the weight of the blanket and its small air pockets within the fibres that trap heat, not much heat escapes at all.

Essentially, fleece bedding sets are similar to the materials used to make thermal blankets. They can be made from natural or synthetic fibres. Consider the best material that suits your preferences and requirements for softness, durability and ease of care. This way, you can wrap up warm with a cuppa, and relax in the knowledge you made the right choice. And - with energy bills constantly rising, fleece bedding might be a cost-effective option, rather than an electric blanket, which requires power.

When picking a fleece-material duvet cover – primed for a great night’s sleep, quality is your best bet. Though we’ve made sure to include picks for all price points, opting for something mid-range will offer durability. A well-constructed bedding set will withstand a spin in the washing machine and daily use without pilling, tearing, or losing its softness – keeping its snuggly qualities. Plus, year-round allergy sufferers should consider a hypoallergenic set to keep those pesky sniffles at bay.

FAQs

How do you wash fleece?

Washing fleece blankets, throws and bedding can be a little tricky. After all, choosing the wrong cycle or detergent could mean the super-soft fleece feel disappears. To prevent any piling or matting, Better Homes and Gardens has offered some fabulous advice for your new set:

Wash fleece blankets separately in cold water on a gentle cycle.

Only use a small amount of fabric detergent to keep the soft feel.

Avoid using any bleach-based products, which can damage the fibres.

For any tough stains caused by a chocolate biscuit or spilt coffee, BHG recommends pre-treating your fleece with “a drop of dishwashing liquid, letting it set on the spot for about 10 minutes before blotting it away with a paper towel or cloth.” Using dishwashing liquid will break down the stain before you pop it in the washing machine on a cool spin.

Can you tumble-dry fleece?

Like regular bedding, fleece sets are relatively easy to care for. Check the care instructions to ensure that your new fleecing bedding set can be dried in a dryer without losing its quality.

Better Homes and Gardens recommends hanging your fleece bedding set up to dry on a heated clothes airer, or tumble-dried on a low heat (or a no-heat) cycle to keep the softness. They add: “Don't dry your fleece blanket on high heat, which can cause the blanket fibres to melt or shrink.”
