We've loved  Robert Hardy CBE since he appeared on our screens in 1978 as vet Siegfried Farnon in All Creatures Great and Small, which ran for a whopping 12 years until 1990.

The actor, who was born in 1925, was also famed for roles in The Troubleshooters, where he played Alec Stewart, and for playing Prince Albert in the 1975 serial Edward the Seventh.

Smaller roles included an episode of Inspector Morse and an episode of Lewis. He came to the attention of a younger generation playing the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, in the Harry Potter film series.

He was a close friend of Richard Burton, who he had met at Oxford University.

He passed away aged 91.
