When I heard that the George Foreman Immersea Health Grill could cook healthier food quickly, all whilst using less energy - I had to try it for myself. I wouldn't say that I am impatient, but with three young children, the quicker that I can tick the evening meal off of my to-do list, the better. I have always been a fan of George Foreman grills, but one of the biggest drawbacks is the endless soaking and scrubbing. So the fact that this unit is dishwasher friendly and easy to clean truly was music to my ears.

In the UK, grilling can be a challenge. We don't have the benefit of endless days to use our outdoor barbecues. So, if you are a big fan of grilling food, then you probably have to opt for grilling in your oven or using a kitchen appliance with a grill feature, and in my humble opinion - that isn't the same.

As any keen barbecuer will tell you, grill is more than just cooking. Grilling food is so satisfying because it enhances the natural flavours through the caramelisation of sugars, creating a deliciously smoky and charred taste. But I love grilling for the sensory experience of sizzling sounds paired with enticing aromas. This is something you might miss if you are popping your meat in an air fryer.

Grilling food is considered healthier as it allows excess fats to drip away from the food, reducing overall calorie content. The George Foreman Immersa Health Grill neatly collects the excess fats through draining holes in a drawer underneath, which can be easily cleaned. Additionally, the cooking method preserves more nutrients in the food compared to methods involving excessive boiling or frying, promoting a healthier and nutrient-rich meal.

Key features

Whilst I am a fan of all of the George Foreman cooking appliances (and, of course, the former heavyweight champion George Foreman himself), some distinct features make the George Foreman Immersa Health Grill stand out from the rest.

Dishwasher-safe plates for easy cleaning

The feature that is probably the most noteworthy of this appliance is that it is dishwasher safe. Unclip the electrical elements in the bag and pop it into the dishwasher or sink.

Vertical storage

We know that storage may not be the first thing you consider when purchasing a new kitchen appliance but it should play a factor. As a busy household, my kitchen space is extremely limited. I already have a large family-sized slow cooker taking up valuable counter space, so the fact that this can be neatly and vertically stored was a big selling point.

Faster preheat

According to the George Foreman site, the Immersa Medium Electric Grill has a 62 per cent faster preheat than the previous heated plate models. This was a great selling point for me because hungry tots are very impatient, so the quicker I can pop those sausages on the grill - the better for everyone.

Testing the George Foreman Immersa Medium Electric Grill

When cooking, I am looking to make the healthiest meal possible as quickly as I can with minimal cleanup. And this electrical grill ticks all of those boxes. When testing this appliance, I cooked an array of meats from pork lions to chicken breasts, sausage to the age-old British classic - the ham and cheese toastie. Some were slightly more successful than others (read: the chicken was overcooked and arguably burnt).

When it comes to George Foreman electric grills, this model doesn't break the mould. Like most of the George Foreman grills, it works with two flat-ribbed hotplates that close to cook your food perfectly. Well, almost perfectly, in regards to my chicken previously mentioned. Grilling does take a little bit of skill; you need to keep a close eye so your meat is cooked just the way you like it - be it medium, rare or well done.

I do wish that the grill had temperature control. It gets very hot very quickly, but for a novice griller, it can be difficult to get the meat to cook exactly right. But that possibly says more bout me as a cook than it does about the grill.

In regards to cleaning the grill, I have tried cleaning it both traditionally with warm, soapy water in a sink and through the dishwasher and was blown away by the results of both - glistening clean and not a remanence of grease or fat in sight. This is one of the first of its kind from George Foreman, which is usually constrained to wipe clean only because of all the electrical elements.

Final verdict

I really enjoyed cooking on the Immersa Medium Electric Grill. I would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a home electric grilling appliance. It is easy to use and even easier to clean. As previously mentioned, I would have liked to adjust the heat temperature, but I did find the heat indicator very helpful.

Top tips for using the George Foreman Immersa Health Grill

Cooking on an electric grill can be a convenient and efficient way to prepare delicious meals. Here are some tips to make the most of your electric grill:

Preheat the grill:

Just like with traditional grills, preheating is crucial. Give your electric grill enough time to reach the desired temperature before placing food on it. This ensures even cooking and adds a nice sear to your food. This grill has a useful green heat indicator when it is at the optimum temperature.

Marinate or season beforehand:

Enhance the flavour of your food by marinating meats or seasoning them before grilling. Allow enough time for the flavours to penetrate the food.

Use a meat thermometer:

To ensure that your meats are cooked to perfection, we recommend using a meat thermometer. This is especially important for items like poultry and thick cuts of meat.

Arrange food properly:

Arrange food with enough space between pieces to allow for proper airflow. This helps in even cooking and prevents steaming.
