Super thin brows, brown lips and blue shadow are all the best makeup looks synonymous with the 90s. While these trends might sound a little scary now, some of these popular 90s makeup styles are creeping back onto the catwalks and pages of fashion magazines.

Back in the 90s, it was the Naomi Campbell, Posh Spice and Cameron Diaz who were the it-girls of the 90s makeup trends, and while many of these looks have been left in the 90s, it's always fun to have a nostalgic look back at these once popular makeup trends.

Brown lips

Forget finding your perfect shade of lipstick. Brown lips or brick lips were everywhere in the 90s. Although there are still brown shades of lipstick available to buy, they're mostly worn around the autumn and winter months, but here's Gwyneth Paltrow showing us how it's worn year round at a 90s movie premier.

Pastel shadow

There's no doubt you wore some pastel and frosty makeup on your face in the 90s. Although pastels may have also been a 70s makeup trend, here's the iconic Britney Spears wearing some rather bold pastel shadow in the 90s, paired with some shimmery blue liner and brown glossy lips.

Grunge eyeliner

Another 90s trend was grunge, and bold black liner was extremely popular in this era, even the likes of Princess Diana would rarely be seen without her thick black liner. Here's Jennifer Aniston showing us a more subtle version of the 90s liner.

Matte skin

While natural and dewy skin might be all the rage at the moment, it was powdery matte skin that was everywhere in the 90s as well as in 60s makeup. The best concealers kept that desirable consistent skin tone. Here's Nicole Kidman showing up how it's done.

Frosted lips

This is a trend we were glad to see the back of. 90s icon Winona Ryder was no stranger to the frosted lip, but we can't help but think it looks a little too fairy-like to get away with these days.

Thin brows

Barely there brows seem to be making a bit of a come back in recent years and even some celebs are bleaching their brows (we're talking about Madonna)! And while we must admit we prefer a more natural, thicker brow, we are a fan of Pamela Anderson's iconic thin brows.

Heavy lip liner

Once you've found your perfect brown lip shade, you'll want to line your lips with a heavy thick liner. Even better if you can over line them slightly to make them appear bigger. Just leave the centre of the lip bare to achieve that pouty look like Naomi Campbell.

Shimmer

Towards the end of the 90s, it was all about shine shine shine. And the shimmer didn't stop at the face, here's Sarah Jessica Parker showing us how to wear body shimmer all over the face, chest, shoulders and arms for a dazzling look.

Blue shadow

Despite being more of an 80s makeup trend, the bold shadow was popular in the 90s too. Here's Selma Hayek with a strip of bold blue shadow with a little glitter at a 90s movie premier.

Face gems

Just like those nostalgic 90s toys of the past it was all about the bling in the 90s and the face was definitely not immune to the sparkle. Sticking rhinestones on the face was a very popular trend back then, especially when placed around the eyes. Pop star Gwen Stefani loved a good set of face gems - here she is matching her face gems to her outfit and hair.

Bare face beauty

While some of the 90s styles were on the bolder side, the barely there look really gained some popularity in the 90s. It's a timeless look that's still very popular today, and we must say, the less-is-more look is a favourite of ours.
