Crochet an adorable amigurumi keepsake to mark the Queen’s Jubilee!

You will need:

• 100g balls of Women’s Institute Premium Acrylic Yarn in the following colours:

• 1 x cream (A)

• 1 x honey (B)

• 1 x black (C)

• 1 x light purple (D)

• 1 x yellow (E)
• 1 x white (F)
• 3.5mm crochet hook

• Tapestry needle
• Stitch markers
• 2 x black toy safety eyes

Abbreviations

ch-chain; dc-double crochet; dec-dc2tog; htr-half triple crochet; inc-2 dc in next st; Picot-3 ch, slst into 1st ch; qr-quadruple crochet; Sl st-slip stitch; st-stitch; tr-triple crochet

Popcorn

Work 5 tr stitches in the same stitch. Drop the loop from your hook. Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group. Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

(9) Row1:1ch,skip1,8dc,turn.(8) Row2:1ch, skip1, 7dc, turn.(7) Row3:1ch,skip1,6dc,turn.(6) Row 4:1ch,skip1,5dc,turn.(5) Row5:1ch,skip1,4dc,turn.(4) Row6: 1ch, skip1, 3dc, turn.(3) Row7: 1ch, skip1, 2dc, turn.(2) Row 8: 1 ch, skip 1, 1 dc. Ear

Make 2 in each Colour A and Colour B. Rnd 1: 2 ch, starting in 2nd ch from hook, 2 htr, turn. (2) Rnd 2: 1 ch, 2 inc, turn. (4) Rnd 3: 1 ch, [1 inc, 1 dc] 2 times, turn. (6) Rnd 4: 1ch, 6dc, turn. Rnd 5: 1ch,[1inc,1dc]3 times, turn. (9) Rnd 6:1ch,9dc. Finishing: Fasten off. Place back sides of one Colour A Ear and one Colour B Ear together. Slst around edge in Colour B to join, adding extra dc in the corners.

Tail

Make 1 each in Colour A and Colour B. Rnd 1:1dc,1htr,1tr,1qr, picot,1qr,1tr,1htr,1dc,into magic ring. (8) Finishing: Fasten off. Place back sides of one Colour A Tail and one Colour B Tail together. Slst around edge in Colour B to join.

Crown

Crown Under Using Colour F. Rnd 1: 18 ch, slst in the first ch made to create a loop, [1 dc, 1 popcorn] 9 times. (18) Change to Colour D. Rnds 2-5: Dc around. Rnd 6: [1 dec, 1 dc] 6 times. (12) Rnd 7: 6 dec. (6) Finishing: Fasten off and sew hole closed.

Crown Top

Using Colour E. Rnd 1: 18 ch, slst into first ch made to create loop, 18 dc. (18) Rnd 2: [1 slst, (1 htr, picot, 1 htr) into next st] 9 times. (27) Finishing: Slst and fasten off. Band 1 Using Colour E. Row 1: 10 ch. (10) Finishing: Fasten off.

Band 2 Using Colour E. Row 1: 5 ch, work 1 ch around the middle of Band 1, 5 ch. (11) Finishing: Fasten off.

Cross

Using Colour E. Row1:2ch,[2ch,1slstin2nd ch from hook] 3 times, 2 slst. (4) Finishing: Fasten off.

Assembly

Place Crown Top on Crown Under, sew to fasten. Place the Bands over Crown Top, sew to fasten. Sew Cross to the Bands join.

Cloak

Using Colour D. Row 1: 17 ch, starting in 3rd ch from hook, 15 htr, turn. (15) Row2:2ch,[2 htr in next st, 4 htr] 3 times, turn. (18) Row3:2ch,[2htr in next st, 5 htr] 3 times, turn. (21) Row 4: 2 ch, [2 htr in next st, 6 htr] 3 times, turn. (24) Rows 5-10: 2 ch, htr across, turn. Finishing: Fasten off. Using Colour F, [dc down side of piece, [1 htr, 1 popcorn] across] 2 times, slst to join.

Assembly

Embroider eyes, nose and eyebrows using Colour C and Colour F. Fold ears and sew to head. Sew complete crown to head. Sew neck to body. Stuff neck, sew head to neck. Sew legs to body. Sew tail to body. Sl-st through Cloak in Colour E for decoration. Tie Cloak around Neck, using either a scrap of Colour F or a few chs.
