Charlotte Ritchie is a British actress and singer-songwriter who has starred in various TV series including Feel Good, Raised by Wolves and Fresh Meat. Charlotte Ritchie starred in the BBC One sitcom, Ghosts in the role of Alison. The series begins after Alison and her partner Mike inherit a family home. Their plans to turn it into a wonderful family home are put on hold when they realise the house is haunted and the ghosts want them out.

While the actress has confessed she doesn't believe in ghosts , she still says she wouldn't stay the night at the show's mansion: "There is one particular room that is really cold and that definitely feels really spooky."

Nurse Barbara Hereward (was Gilbert) was played by Charlotte Ritchie, who joined the cast in series 4 of Call the Midwife. After getting married to Trixie’s ex-fiancé, Tom Hereward, played by Jack Ashton, series 7 began with the pair settling into married life...but ended in tragedy.

How could any fan of Call the Midwife forget Nurse Barbara's devastating final moments before sadly dying from septicaemia. Talking to RadioTimes.com, Charlotte reflected on those heartbreaking final scenes and how it was to film them.

Although Charlotte thinks it was the right time for Nurse Barbara to leave, she admits it was also very sad. " My character, nurse Barbara Gilbert, just basically died and it really was the end," she says. "There was no ‘Please come back whenever you like’. It was like, ‘You can’t’. I still get people messaging me saying they are in floods of tears over my death."

Stephen McGann, who plays Dr Turner and is married to the series' writer Heidi Thomas says: “Barbara’s so full of life but this illness is vicious and it has a knock-on effect on everyone because they’re like a family. It’s a crisis and a terrible worry but they have to carry on as professionals.”

As well as Call the Midwife, Charlotte has starred in a catalogue of film and TV series including Fresh Meat, Doctors, Raised by Wolves, Life of Riley and also featured as an extra in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire during her early acting days.

She has also appeared in the Doctor Who New Year's special as the character Lin.

Charlotte’s mother, Kate Burton who's also an actress (most famous for her roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal) and her father is Richard Burton. Richard was most famous for Cleopatra and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf as well as many more. Charlotte’s grandmother, and first wife of Richard Burton, is Sybil Williams, who was also an actress as well as a theatre director and founder of the famous New York nightclub Arthur.

Although Charlotte is not married, it has been revealed that she's currently in a relationship with Mae Martin. Mae is a comedian, actor and writer from Canada. The pair star together in the Netflix series, Feel Good.

She was born in Clapham, London and grew up there. After attending James Allen’s Girls’ School, she joined the Youth Music Theatre UK. Whilst finishing her degree in English and Drama at the University of Bristol, she was filming for Fresh Meat.
