We all know that weddings can be awfully stressful and for many couples, deciding to elope for a quicker, more intimate (and let's face it, cheaper) wedding is a much better choice for them personally. Take a look at our favourite celebrity couples who have eloped throughout the years...

A notoriously private couple who were friends for decades beforehand, it is rumoured that the thriller film Dream House brought the actors together. Just six months after their relationship was first reported, in June 2011 it was announced that the James Bond actor had married Weisz in New York with just four guests present.

They may no longer be together but when this Hollywood couple were dating, they took the plunge and eloped in 2008 at a wilderness retreat in Canada, just one year after dating. However, in 2010 it was announced the couple had split. Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively got married in September 2012 and have four children together.

After a whirlwind four months of dating, Bruce proposed to Demi during a visit to Las Vegas and the pair married in their suite at the Golden Nugget hotel with only a few guests. A month later, they threw a much more lavish wedding for friends and family in LA. The couple went on to split but share three daughters together and remain good friends.

Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor

Romance blossomed between the two actors on the set of Cleopatra in 1962, leading to a highly publicised relationship in which they married and divorced one another twice. The pair married in a private ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton Montreal in 1964. They divorced in June 1974, but eventually reconciled, marrying in Botswana in 1975. Sadly it wasn't meant to be and the relationship ended in divorce in July 1976.

Similar to Burton and Taylor, Natalie Wood and Robert married each other twice, the first wedding taking place in 1957. After rekindling their relationship in 1972 after they had divorced, they went on to remarry in an intimate ceremony on a 55-foot yacht. Why not, eh?

Debbie Reynolds told People in 1983: “I never felt bitter about Elizabeth. A man doesn’t leave a woman for another woman unless he wants to go"
