Claire Foy and Matt Smith as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip in The Crown

We love Claire Foy as a young Queen Elizabeth, but after two seasons of playing Her Royal Majesty, the time has come for Claire to step down in her role as the Queen in Netflix drama, The Crown.

The second series, which is available to stream on Netflix Dec 8th 2017, will end in 1963. The actress who plays the queen will be replaced every two seasons in order to age with the character. Claire Foy will be replaced by Broadchurch actress Olivia Colman, 43. The Bafta winning actress is set to star in the role for the next two seasons, seeing the queen through the decades.

Fans of Game of Thrones or Outlander will recognise this British actor who is set to take on the role of Prince Phillip for seasons three and four of The Crown. The 44 year-old who will be replacing current Prince Phillip, Matt Smith, will be starring opposite actress Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham-Carter. We can't wait to see the talented actors on screen together.

In the meantime, here's the trailer for series two, which airs in December and follows the Queen from 1956 for an eight year period.

We can't wait to see Olivia as the Queen! If you missed the first season of The Crown, don't worry! You can now watch it on DVD

Helena Bonham-Carter to play Princess Margaret

The award-winning actress, Helena Bonham-Carter is set to join the cast of The Crown in the role of Princess Margaret, taking over from Vanessa Kirby who has played Princess Margaret for the first two seasons of The Crown. The introduction of the new actors in the series sees the start of the 1970’s and will see 51 year-old Helena, play the Queen’s younger sister.

Josh O'Connor to play Prince Charles

You may recognise Josh from The Durrells where he plays Lawrence Durrell but according to the Daily Mail newspaper, the actor has reportedly been lined up to portray the heir to the throne in the upcoming third and fourth seasons of the Netflix drama.

However, Josh turns 28 later this month but the next series of 'The Crown' will cover the years 1964-1970, when Charles was aged between 16 and 22.

Jason Watkins to play Harold Wilson

Prime Minsiter at the time, Harold Wilson, will be played by the very talented and award winning Jason Watkins. You may recognise Jason from Trollied or Being Human. The actor had the above message for fans of the show.

Erin Doherty to play Princess Anne

You may recognise Erin from Call the Midwife series six where she played Jessie Marsh. Now, the actress will be playing the Queen and Prince Phillip's daughter, Princess Anne.

It is thought that Diana is set to be the main focus of series four but it is thought her character will be introduced at some point in the third series along with Camilla Parker-Bowles, but we wonder who will be playing them?
