The famous science lectures from the Royal Institution have been broadcast on the BBC since 1936, making it the longest-running series of scientific lectures in the world. As these very special shows become available online for the younger generation to watch, it has been discovered that some of the tapes are missing!

With the backing of Sir David Attenborough, people are being urged to find the 31 missing Christmas Lectures from the BBC archive as it is believed they could be hiding in someones house or amongst tapes they were unaware of.

The tapes in question were broadcast between 1966 and 1973 and are currently unaccounted for. Included in the missing episodes is footage of Attenborough not seen since it was first broadcast 50 years ago.

Although the missing episodes of the lectures are officially believed to have been lost, the BBC and Royal Institution believe individuals may own copies made during the early days of video recorders.
