What is the law on cold calling?
Door knocking is not illegal, however, if you display a sign in the window like the one above, clearly stating that cold callers are not welcome, they could be causing a criminal offence.
Furthermore, if a cold caller ignores your request for them to leave, this can also be seen as a criminal offence.
What if a cold caller is trying to sell me goods?
If a cold caller offers to sell you goods or services that cost over £42, they must provide you with a written notice giving you 14 days to cancel the agreement. Failing to do so could be seen as a criminal offence.
