Our 77-year-old tester was looking for a toaster that would be "simple to use, toast evenly, and fit in with the other appliances" in her kitchen. The Judge Electricals 2 slice Toaster ticks a lot of boxes: it’s lightweight enough to move easily, looks good on the worktop and is sleek and well-designed. Bigger families might benefit from a four-slice toaster but the 2-slice version is perfect for my needs. 

It has defrost and reheat modes which are useful, along with 6 browning modes, "but I was surprised by how high it had to be turned up to get it to toast well", our tester shared. "I generally have it on 4 which does mean it takes longer than other toasters I’ve had. Nevertheless, it toasts evenly and gives a nice crisp, brown finish". As with other toasters, it retains the heat, so if you’re going to be toasting more than two slices in close succession, it may need turning down to avoid over-toasting the third and fourth pieces of bread. "It fits a standard size of bread well, but larger pieces need turning to get the top brown as well".

As for cleaning, it has cord storage and a removable crumb tray, which our tester liked: "I found it easy enough to clean, as the crumb tray pulls out from the bottom so you can empty out the crumbs and as mentioned, it’s lightweight enough to handle easily so I can move it around when cleaning. "
