If you’re anything like me - low maintenance when it comes to hair styling - you’ll understand why the Silk'n SilkyStraight Infrared Hair Straightener immediately caught my attention. I tend to only use a hair straightener when I’m going out, as for me, this is the easiest and most convenient thing to do.
My hair is mid-length, and I hate to admit it, but with age and after having kids, not as thick as it once was (boohoo!). Working from home means that I’m straightening my hair even less because who needs to look good for a Teams meeting or the school run, right? Having said that, the straighteners I do have are over 20 years old, and although they are in good nick, they aren’t the gentlest on my hair, so I don’t really like using them. This is why I upgraded my old hair tool to the Silk'n SilkyStraight Infrared Hair Straighteners.

Testing the Silk'n SilkyStraight Infrared Hair Straightener
From the get-go, the Silk'n SilkyStraight hair straighteners are classy and stylish, and I love the colour – a subtle rose gold, so visually they’re already a step up from my boring, old, black ones.
I first used the straighteners over a weekend and immediately noticed how light they were to handle. I have a stiff right shoulder, and it didn’t cause any discomfort through the repetitive action of straightening my hair.
I’d say it took around 10-15 seconds to warm up so there was no waiting around.

Silk'n SilkyStraight Infrared Hair Straightener temperature settings
There are 12 adjustable temperature settings, but I started on a low heat to begin with, as I prefer to work my way up to the right temperature. I made sure to use a reliable heat protectant spray to protect my hair and prevent potential damage.
I also like a little bounce and body to my hair and not have it paper straight. Very quickly I saw a difference and handling them was a breeze and they are nice and light too.

Key features of the Silk'n SilkyStraight Infrared Hair Straightener
Infrared technology and an ionic generator
The Silk'n straighteners use infrared technology to reduce heat damage, plus the device has an ionic generator which releases negative ions to help improve hair health by sealing the hair cuticle and reducing frizz. It basically leaves hair protected and still shiny. For me, this is a win and exactly what I was after.
Floating titanium plates
I also noticed that, unlike my old ones, my hair wasn’t falling out as much, which was a welcome relief even after I washed it a few days later. The straighteners literally glided through my hair thanks to the floating titanium plates, and my hair didn’t get caught in the plates like it does with my old pair. It took me only a few minutes to straighten my hair to the desired effect, and I immediately noticed how shiny it made my hair look. I don’t have frizz, but over the last few years, as my hair has become thinner, I’ve noticed I have a kink to it that I don’t like. By just lightly gliding the straighteners through my hair, it got rid of the kink, and I didn’t even need to turn up the heat.

LED screen
It took me a few seconds to find the LED temperature screen, as my old straighteners had it on top; however, it’s on the side here, away from my fingers, which eliminates accidental switch-offs, a regular gripe I had with my previous pair.
Accessories
The Silk'n hair straighteners come with a heat-resistant travel pouch and mat – a nice touch! This made it super convenient to pop the product on while it was heating up as well as in between styling.
Final verdict
What I loved about the Silk'n SilkyStraight Infrared Hair Straightener was that it’s powerful but gentle on the hair, which is exactly what I was after. Seeing the change in my once gorgeous mane has often left me quite sad and disheartened, so I’m always cautious about straightening my hair.
I’d happily recommend this product. It’s light to handle, easy to use and much better for your hair compared to other hair gadgets out there. What’s not to love?
