Sensica Sensilight PRO is a clinically-proven personal-use hair removal device that gives you permanent hair reduction on your face and body without tricky shaving, messy waxing, or painful exfoliating. Perfect for hair removal at home.

Created to give you the same results as you’d get in a professional spa, and clinically proven for at-home use, the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology inside every Sensilight PRO has been designed with both effectiveness and safety in mind. Thanks to a unique energy recommendation button, the device identifies the most suitable energy level for your specific skin, while built-in sensors ensure that the device only works on suitable skin tones, so you can carry out every treatment with complete confidence.

For ultimate accuracy, the device offers two treatment options. The 4.5cm window is suitable for use on large areas of the body, such as legs and arms. For small areas, like the upper lip, chin, and jawline, a 2cm wide precision tip attachment with an integrated UV filter has been specially designed to deliver gentle and precise treatment.

Cons

  • time-consuming

Claudia Cabelli, Product & Training Manager at Sensica, explains how the Sensica Sensilight PRO works:

"IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a hair removal method that uses broad-spectrum light to target the hair follicle, damaging the root and preventing future hair growth. IPL is often compared to traditional hair removal methods such as shaving and waxing, but there are several key differences to consider.

"Shaving is a quick and inexpensive way to remove hair, but it only provides temporary results and can cause irritation, razor burn and ingrown hairs. Shaving also needs to be done frequently, sometimes daily, to maintain smooth skin.

"Waxing involves applying hot wax to the skin and then removing it quickly, along with the hair. Waxing can provide longer-lasting results than shaving, but it can be painful, time-consuming, messy and can cause skin irritation and ingrown hairs.

"IPL, on the other hand, offers longer-lasting results than both shaving and waxing, as it targets the hair follicle directly and can lead to permanent hair reduction over time. IPL is also less painful than waxing and can be used on larger areas of the body, such as the legs and back and is very useful for targeted delicate areas like bikini line or upper lip.

"Although IPL can be considered more expensive you should consider that this a onetime purchase."

Testing the Sensica Sensilight PRO

The first impression of this product is of quality, the box it arrives in is smart and stylish – in fact I kept mine to keep my Sensilight inside – it has everything you need to get started including two treatment windows, a helpful and easy-to-follow guide, a charging cable and the Sensilight itself. There are also lots of useful videos and tips via the Sensica website or YouTube if you prefer something more visual.

Before using the Sensilight for the first time I gave it a charge up, then you're recommended to shave, and make sure your legs are clean and free of moisturiser etc. Once it's charged the device is completely cordless, a great feature that means you can use it wherever you like, without being tied to a mains switch. If you press the energy level recommendation button while holding the treatment window against your skin it tells you what setting it recommends you to use. This was very helpful as I've been using the Sensilight on different areas of the body such as legs and underarms, where my skin is paler.

Once you've chosen the correct setting you're off. Pressing and holding down the trigger button for more than three flashes will then activate glide mode, which saves you from having to keep pressing the trigger each time you want to treat the skin. This also inactivates automatically if not pressed against the skin, as a safety precaution.

The flash itself is not painful at all, I can suffer with sensitive skin, and I had absolutely no irritation when using the Sensilight. Some areas would be slightly red immediately afterwards, but it fades in a matter of seconds. I could also sometimes feel a very faint prickle eater the flash, or smell burning hair, but that was all.

sensilight controls

I've been using the Sensica Sensilight PRO for a few months now and I've definitely noticed the difference, particularly on my legs. Hair growth has become slower, some patches I get no hair at all, and the hair that is there is less noticeable. I've got quite thick dark hair and have always been quite conscious of it, but now I'm really looking forward to the summer and being able to shave less!

The only disadvantage for me is the extra time it takes, after showering and shaving it takes me an extra 20-30 minutes at least to treat my legs and underarms, so I have to factor that in. You don't need to use the Sensilight every time you shave – there's a guide in the booklet which explains how often to use it, starting with two weeks apart, then once a month, then as needed. There's a treatment log included in the booklet that comes with your Sensilight so I definitely recommend using that so you don't lose track.

It's a much better hair removal solution for me than shaving or waxing, as I'm prone to ingrown hairs, rashes and bumpy areas when I shave, and experience discomfort from soaps etc due to my sensitive skin. With waxing I get too self-conscious between treatments, so I like that I can continue to shave between treatments with the Sensilight. I've now started using the Sensilight on my arms and bikini line, as well as my underarms. The smaller treatment window means you can also use it on your face, so it's a full body solution.

Final thoughts

While it is an expensive purchase, I think taking into account the amount you spend on razors or waxing treatment, it actually works out quite cost-effective. Personally, the idea of being hair-free or even being less conscious of body hair is priceless. As mentioned, the only slight negative for me was the additional time it takes, and remembering to factor in that extra time when the next treatment is due, but the amount you use the Sensilight does decrease as you progress with it. I'm really happy to already be seeing results but it's worth noting that it is a process, don't expect to go zap and suddenly you're hair-free! I'd definitely recommend the Sensica Sensilight PRO to anyone who is self-conscious about their body hair, or struggles with sensitivity when shaving or waxing.
