rosacea treatment

Although rosacea is a fairly common skin condition, it’s still quite misunderstood. A long-term skin problem that mostly affects the face, there are a range of treatments and medicated solutions that can help keep flare ups under control for some. Having said that, symptoms can still worsen overtime and it can have a huge psychological impact for sufferers, particularly when it’s more severe.

Rosacea symptoms

Facial redness - This can start as flushing or blushing in the face but overtime, this redness persists and can be accompanied by a tingling or burning sensation.

Rash - sometimes, it can cause visible skin irritation such as a rash or acne like spots.

Visible blood vessels - These look like thin red lines on the face, particularly on the cheeks or nose.

Eye irritation - this is a common symptom of those suffering with ocular rosacea and you may find that your eyes are red, itchy, watery or dry. It might feel similar to when an eyelash is irritating your eye.

Thicker skin - the skin may appear thicker or swollen, particularly on the nose. This mostly affects men.

Getting a rosacea diagnosis

There is no specific test for rosacea, so your doctor will base a diagnosis on the appearance of your skin and your medical history.

It’s also a myth that it only affects white skin. As many of the symptoms are redness, it can be difficult to diagnose on black or brown skin so you need to be more aware off signs of irritation and thicker spots.

Causes of rosacea

Scientists don’t know what causes rosacea. All they do know is that people with rosacea are much more sensitive to environmental factors that effect the skin such as the sun. They also believe some genetic factors are at play.

Treatments for Rosacea

With so many different treatments on the market, we asked some of our readers, all of whom suffer with rosacea, to put some of the best rosacea treatments to the test to see what impact they had on the skin and if they’re really worth the money.
