Our Queen is an icon, hero, grandmother and heart of our nation. As the longest reigning monarch, she continues to be one of the most inspirational people in the world. Her warmth, wisdom and charm have earned her global respect and even at the age of 96 she continues to be a working monarch on the world stage.

Throughout the difficult periods in our history, the Queen has remained a symbol of stability, providing strength for the nation. Most recently, she addressed the British people during the coronavirus crisis with a powerful message.

The Coronation

On June 2nd 1953, Princess Elizabeth was crowned Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 27. The coronation was the first to be broadcasted on national television and made for a national occasion of celebration. The televised event was watched by over 8 million households as well as the 8,000 VIP guests that were in attendance at Westminster Abbey to witness the start of the Queen's reign.
