Time has indeed been moving at a ‘glacial pace’ since we have been hearing rumours and speculation about a sequel to the iconic 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada – but the wait had finally come to an end. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is officially in the works!

The original film follows Andrea "Andy" Sachs, an aspiring journalist who lands a job at Runway magazine, headed by the formidable and revered editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, along with her crew of perpetually stressed assistants, navigating the cut-throat world of high fashion and surviving at the top of the industry.

Based on a novel by, she once briefly worked at Vogue as an assistant to Dame Anna Wintour, whose life and work is said to have inspired the character of Miranda Priestly. Coincidentally the announcement of The Devil Wears Prada sequel came in just as Anna Wintour stepped down as the editor-in-chief of Vogue after 37 years.

The Devil Wears Prada sequel release date

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is due to be released on Friday 1 May 2026, which is the weekend right before the fashion world’s biggest night – the Met Gala, making it a perfectly timed premiere.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 cast

Most of the original cast is set to return for The Devil Wears Prada sequel. We’re thrilled to know that the iconic Meryl Streep will be back as Miranda Priestly –  a character that won her an Oscar nomination. Anne Hathaway will be reprising her role of Andrea "Andy" Sachs and her fellow assistant Emily will be played by Emily Blunt. Stanley Tucci will be back as Miranda's second-in-command Nigel. However, Andrea's boyfriend Nate does not seem to have a role in The Devil Wears Prada 2 as Adrian Grenier who played the role in the last film will not be returning to the screen in the sequel.

Regarding who’s new to the franchise, we are excited to see Kenneth Branagh take over the role of Miranda's husband. We are yet to find out if he’s been cast as the same Stephen who was her husband in the first movie or if he’s going to be a new love interest.

Adding more glam and authenticity to the first film was cameo appearances by real life supermodels such as Gisele Bundchen, Heidi Klum and Bridget Hall. The sequel is sure to follow suit with professionals like the Hadid sisters or Kendall Jenner ruling the runway currently, although we are still unsure of who the big names are going to be.

The Devil Wears Prada sequel: Plot

Lauren Weisberger has written a sequel to her 2003 novel as well, titled ‘Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns’ and we are keen to see to what extent the movie will reflect the plot of the book. However what we do know is that the premise deeply resonates with what is happening in the publishing world and how it is tackling the decline of print.

Miranda Priestly will be navigating her career amidst the changing climate of traditional magazine publishing and in a dramatic plot-twist she will be facing Emily, now an executive for a company whose funding Miranda desperately needs. Since the protagonist Anne Hathaway quite her job at Runway magazine towards the end of the first film, how Andrea will make an entrance in the The Devil Wears Prada 2 remains the biggest suspense of them all.

The Hollywood blockbuster has also been adapted as a musical featuring original score and music by Elton John that has taken over theatre enthusiasts. As someone who has watched the musical at Dominion Theatre London, it is an absolute feast for the eyes – beginning with the grandeur of the costumes and choreography to the brilliant performances of the actors, especially Vanessa Williams who plays the part of Miranda Priestly in the production.

So while we gird our loins and wait for the film to the hit the theatres, this is definitely a performance worth watching if you enjoy musicals.
