They made it all the way to the final, finishing as runners-up to series 16 winners Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton, another couple whose romance began on Strictly.
Before meeting Joe, Dianne had been in a relationship with actor Anthony Quinlan, known for his roles in Hollyoaks and Emmerdale. The pair reportedly dated until early 2018, just months before Dianne was partnered with Joe for Strictly’s 16th series. By the time the show concluded in December 2018, their budding romance was already beginning to flourish, and it was confirmed publicly shortly after the final.
Soon afterwards, Joe shared a heartfelt post on social media, explaining that although he hadn’t won the "I may not have won the glitter ball, but I’ve won something a million times more special" - confirming their relationship to fans for the first time.

Since then, Joe (34) and Dianne (36) have built a strong and steady relationship, but there have been no wedding bells.
"Joe and I don’t really talk about that kind of thing. We’re both so relaxed, so we just play it by ear. We really enjoy each other’s company so much, and whatever happens, happens," Dianne explained in 2021, the year they bought their first home together.
Over their seven years as a couple, they have shared moments from their lives on YouTube to their millions of followers, from holidays and decorating their Brighton mansion to everyday routines, while still keeping some aspects private.
They also regularly spend time with Joe’s sister, YouTuber Zoella (Zoe Sugg) her fiancé, Alfie Deyes, plus their two daughters Ottilie Rue and Novie Nell.
Like many couples, they have experienced challenges. During the pandemic, Dianne was unable to travel home to Australia to visit her parents, Mark and Rina Buswell, something she described as difficult at the time. However, the period also allowed them to spend more time together in the UK.
In 2021, they took another significant step by buying their first home, marking a new stage in their relationship and future plans.

Now, that dream has come true with the arrival of their son, Bowden Mark Richard Sugg, on the 16th March 2026. Fans and fellow Strictly stars alike were quick to send their congratulations, including warm messages from Claudia Winkleman and Motsi Mabuse.
Over the years, much has been said about the so-called “Strictly curse,” but Joe and Dianne’s relationship has stayed strong.
