Jamie Lee Curtis (66) has officially confirmed she will star in the long‑awaited reboot of Murder, She Wrote, taking on the role of Jessica Fletcher originally made famous by Angela Lansbury.
Speaking on the One Show recently she made it clear she will bring her own unique style to the character saying, "no one is gonna touch Angela, but I will bring my own curiosity".

She also demonstrated what the One Show presenters dubbed as 'pensive stare', a curious and disbelieving facial expression that she's known for pulling by her family.

Jamie commented that throughout her portrayal of the role there will be "panoply" of those reactions and expressions, and claims this is exactly why she's "the perfect person for the job".

Jamie Lee Curtis, who recently won her first Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once confirmed at the Freakier Friday premiere on July 24, 2025, that the Murder, She Wrote reboot is “happening”. “We’re a minute away. But very excited. Very excited,” she said, noting that she’s tamping down her enthusiasm until filming begins either late this year or early next.

Who is writing the Murder She Wrote reboot?

The new crime drama is being developed as a feature‑length adaptation at Universal Pictures, written by Dumb Money duo Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, and produced by Amy Pascal alongside Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

The original series was created by Peter S. Fischer, Richard Levinson, and William Link and aired from September 30, 1984, to May 19, 1996, with over 12 seasons and 264 episodes. Angela Lansbury earned 12 consecutive Emmy nominations for her portrayal of the crime‑solving novelist Jessica Fletcher.

At age 66, Jamie Lee Curtis brings decades of experience for this role, having appeared in numerous horror blockbusters to witty mysteries like Knives Out.

When is production expected to begin on Murder She Wrote?

Jamie Lee Curtis said they’re “a minute away” from starting, but she has several other commitments to complete first—so look for filming to begin possibly in late 2025 or more likely in 2026.

Will the reboot of Murder She Wrote be a series or a film?

Current reports describe the project as a feature‑length film adaptation of the classic series, not a new episodic TV series, though we seriously hope a movie leads to further storytelling.
