Huge news for fans of Call The Midwife as a spin-off show and a film are in the works! And that's not all; filming for series 15 and the Christmas special is underway!
In a recent interview, writer Heidi Thomas OBE spoke to Radio Times about the future of the BBC period drama, saying, “I don’t believe Call The Midwife will ever end, but I do think we might take a break at some point.”
However, as series 14 of Call The Midwife drew to a close, she hinted at a new chapter for the show, sparking speculation about what's in store for Poplar. "Increasingly, we do see opportunities to expand our storytelling world," she added.
"So if we do take a break, it will be with a view to looking at other aspects of Call the Midwife."

Now, on the week of the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the show has made the news official with a war-time version of the show.
"The opening of new doors at Nonnatus House feels profoundly emotional, and yet just right," she says, "I have never run out of stories for our midwives, and I never will. But having wept, laughed, and raged my way from 1957 to 1971, I found myself yearning to delve into the deeper past."
Will there be a Call The Midwife spin-off series?
It’s clear that Call the Midwife isn’t resting on its laurels; the creative minds behind it are constantly exploring ways to evolve the story and keep things fresh for viewers.
While details of the Call The Midwife spin-off are scarce, we do know that it will be an eight-part series set in World War II.
The idea has sparked excitement among fans who are eager to see more of the hit show. With a rich tapestry of characters and decades of history to draw upon, there are countless possibilities for a new direction for the show.
Before the news was made official, a TV insider told The Sun that a spin-off could focus Trixie's story, “Trixie is an obvious choice of subject because she is one of the wilder characters at Nonnatus House and therefore has the potential for a more interesting back story.
“When we were introduced to her in series one in 2012 she was in her early twenties and was already very worldly. So there is much to take a deep dive into."
When the Call The Midwife prequel goes ahead, it's unknown whether Helen George will reprise the role or if a different actress will play Nurse Franklin, or if the character will appear at all.

Another, more likely option could be to explore the lives of some of the older nuns before they came to Poplar, such as Sister Julienne (currently played by Jenny Agutter) or even surgery receptionist Miss Higgin's (Georgie Glen) life before Poplar, when she travelled to India and fell in love.
Whatever happens, we're excited to see where the story takes us next!
