We’re really being spoilt with new BBC dramas lately and the latest one to add to your watchlist is California Avenue. Set in a seemingly quiet seaside caravan park, this upcoming series brings together stars from Strike and The Crown for a fresh take on small-town secrets and personal tensions.

With its mix of familiar faces and a mysterious new setting, California Avenue is shaping up to be another standout in the BBC’s impressive line-up. Here's everything we know so far!

What's California Avenue about?

'California Avenue is a story brimming with humour and love', according to the BBC. From the makers of Doctor Foster and One Day, the new drama is 'set in a secluded canal-side caravan park deep in the luscious English countryside'.

'Its peace is irrevocably disrupted by the arrival of Lela (Erin Doherty) and her 11-year-old child, both on the run, looking for refuge in this hidden world. It is here that a fractured family will come together, ghosts and demons will firmly be put to rest and an unexpected love is forged', the official synopsis reads.

Who's in the California Avenue cast?

• Erin Doherty (Adolescence, The Crown) as Lela
• Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown, Love No) as Jerry, Lela's mother
• Bill Nighy (About Time, Fight Club) as Eddie, Lela's father
• Tom Burke (Strike, The Musketeers) as Cooper, a showman outcast

You may recognise Helena Bonham Carter and Erin Doherty as Princess Margaret and Princess Anne from The Crown, , but in this new drama, the on-screen aunt and niece duo will play mother and daughter.

That’s already some top-tier casting, and we’re sure more big names will be announced soon.

When will California Avenue be released?

Filming for California Avenue kicks off in Hertfordshire later this summer, and the series will be landing on BBC One and iPlayer, though we’re still waiting on an official release date... We'll keep this page updated as soon as we know more!
