The late comedian, performer and entertainer, Max Bygraves OBE had a successful career spanning over six decades. Now, fans are campaigning for Max to be awarded his very own Blue Plaque in his home town of Southwark, London.
The East End boy went from rags to riches to become one of Britain’s most successful entertainers. His star studded journey took him from Bermondsey to Broadway where he appeared alongside the legendary Judy Garland when they were both a young 28-years of age.
His 71-year-old son, Anthony Bygraves is now canvasing for support and votes to get his late father the recognition he deserves. Speaking about the nomination, he said. “Although Dad travelled the world endlessly, appearing on stage , in Cabaret , Film and Television his heart was always here in England , especially in London . To be recognised locally and to be awarded this prestigious Blue Plaque, so close to his early home and Cockney roots , would be most fitting and would mean so very much to him and us as his proud family."
