It seems that there’s serious money to be made in rolling up your sleeves and testing out new recipes, as TV presenter and author Mary Berry made an eye-watering £1.1 million in the last year alone!
While we might have expected her hefty salary to drop after the Great British Bake Off moved to Channel 4 and she remained loyal to the BBC, in fact she made an extra £400,000 last year. Not bad for an 82-year-old!
“My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one,” she said in September 2016 of her decision to hang up her Bake Off apron once and for all. But it seems the public have understood her decision, and remained equally loyal to the Berry brand, snapping up cookery books and eagerly watching her newest TV projects.
Her paycheque came from a range of areas, including her presenting work for the BBC on Mary Berry’s Country House Secrets and Mary Berry Everyday, as well, of course as her enormous cookery book empire.
She’s written more than 70 cookery books across her career, selling a whopping five million copies – there aren’t many kitchens without one. Last year saw the release of Mary’s Household Tips and Tricks too, a collection of domestic hints to help any home run smoothly.
She also launched a cake range with the Finsbury Food Group last year, based on her own recipes (we were sceptical, but they are actually delicious). Plus she’s embraced modern technology, launching her own app too.
Last year she won several high profile awards, including the National Television Award for Best TV Judge and the TV Choice Outstanding Achievement Award – so it seems like 2017 was a success all round!
