In some cases indoor air can be just as, if not more, polluted than the air outside. Since indoor air is not circulated in the same way as outdoor air many pollutants can still remain.

For someone who suffers from asthma and struggles to breathe - especially at nighttime - I was keen to try an air purifier to see if they lived up to the hype and would help alleviate my asthma symptoms.

The Proscenic A9 at a glance:

Specification

• Voltage 120V AC 60Hz

• Rated power 50W

• Filter life 3000 hrs or 4 month

• Applicable area 55m² ( 5 times per hours purification)

How did this product make your life easier?

I wouldn’t say that the Proscenic A9 Air Purifier has made our life any easier, however, it has fast become one of the gadgets we wouldn’t want to be without.

The Proscenic A9 was simple from the get-go. Set up was a breeze – it was simply a case of getting it out of the box and downloading the Proscenic mobile app (you don’t have to connect via the app at all and it can be operated using the control panel on top of the device) you were then ready to go!

The A9 is a freestanding air purifier with a sleek design and is designed to purify air in rooms of up to 968 square feet. It has a white finish with a black top that contains five backlit buttons including a power switch, a child lock button, a shutdown timer button, a fan speed button, and an auto mode button.

When the A9 is in auto mode, the fan will automatically adjust up to the appropriate speed depending on the PM2.5 level (the higher the PM2.5 level, the faster the fan speed). This would be great if you didn’t want to mess about with the app or settings, just stick it on auto mode and it’s good to go!

There’s a square 2-inch colour display on the front that shows you the current indoor PM2.5 level. A colour-coded air quality bar is green when the PM2.5 level is good (0-50), yellow when it is moderate (51-100), orange when it is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups (101-150), and red when it is unhealthy for everyone (greater than 151). The display also has a child lock indicator, a Wi-Fi indicator, and a filter replacement reminder.

The Proscenic A9 will assess and tell you the PM2.5 level of the room its located in and it doesn't take long to make a huge difference to the air quality in your home.

It’s easy to install and does a good job of filtering the air, but it can get a bit noisy when the fan is operating at high speed, however it will only run at high speed until the sensor detects clean air - otherwise the fan is relatively quiet.

We use the Proscenic A9 in our bedroom and turn it on in the evening. There was a fast improvement in the air quality straight away with the first reading being in the 'moderate' zone but within 30 minutes that had reduced to in the 'good' zone. The A9 has also reduced a visible amount of micro dust that would usually accumulate on my furniture ( the kind that you can see when the sun shines through).

The A9 uses a four-stage filter to cleanse the air:

Layer 1: Pre-filter removing larger particles including hair, fibres, dander and others.

Layer 2: Nano-silver ion coating used to neutralize harmful bacteria and prevent mould regeneration the filter.

Layer 3: HEPA H13 filter is a medical-grade filter, it removes 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns as well as PM2.5 particles such as smoke, pollen, dust mites and others.

Layer 4: Activated carbon filter which absorbs odors, harmdul VOCs and other toxi substances.

The A9 supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control, but all you can do is turn the unit on and off. You can’t adjust fan speeds or ask for the current PM reading. For that you’ll need the Proscenic mobile app for Android and iOS devices.

Would you recommend this product?

Yes! We have found not only has it improved my partners allergies at night time which means he gets a much better nights sleep but my sleep is no longer interrupted due to his tossing and turning. We both feel like we have an added comfort that we know the air is cleaner in our bedroom. The A9 is great value for money and is a good basic air purifier that is simple to use. It doesn't have some of the other features that the more expensive models have but we have noticed a huge difference with allergies so I think this does the job!

Would you choose this product above all others on the market?

The device is simple and easy to operate and the smart home app is really easy to use. I love the intelligent auto mode for air quality and I love how the device alerts you as to when it's time to change the filters. However I think that the product would be improved if it came with a replacement. If you’re on the look out for an affordable smart air purifier, the Proscenic A9 is worth a look. It’s a great purifier but it lacks some of the extensive measurements that you get with more expensive models.

What changes would you make to this product?

This product could be improved by including at least one replacement filter with the purifier, the filters are quite hard to get hold of and I think that having at least one replacement would be of an added benefit. Although there is a sleep mode on the device, the power ON/OFF button still remains on and we found this still to be quite bright at night time, it would be good if this was duller or turned if it off completely.
