Dyson are well-known for creating innovating products that can be life changing - that seems dramatic, but the brand's creativity has brought us bag-free vacuum cleaners and high-tech hair dryers.

When it comes to fans and heaters, Dyson has gone one better and created a fan that purifies the air around you - apparently. Using carbon filters, the fan not only cools the air, but improves its quality.

But is it worth the hefty price-tag? We put the Dyson Pure Cool Air Purifier to the test to find out how great it really is.

What our tester said

If you’re a lover of smartphones and all things technological then you’ll love this cool gadget. Using latest technology you can activate and monitor the Dyson Pure Cool TP04 Air Purifier from your phone.

This model has some amazing features incorporated into it allowing you to view what is being filtered out of the air in your home, and how much. It’s equipped with multiple sensors that can detect small particles of dust, pollen and harmful chemicals that we should not be breathing in, whilst pushing out cleaned-up air back into the room.

Easy to assemble and remote control ready to use. Slimline design, fits comfortably into any area of the home, and looks so stylish. Variable speed selector. Multi degree angle for oscillation control from 45° to 350° of rotation.

It connects to your Wi-Fi network and has an accompanying app, Dyson Link. To register your smartphone all you have to do is download the Dyson Link app and you will be taken through registration as part of the set up. However, it did take me several attempts at pairing the purifier to my smartphone and to verify the connection.

From your device you can create a weekly schedule to turn the purifier on at a specific time and with your preferred settings ie morning, all day, evening or night, selecting days, times and setting. The built-in LCD display screen clearly shows a graph of what’s going on with your air directly on the device.

Hayfever season is always a very difficult time for my son and this unit has been wonderful. It’s also helped my son-in-law who suffers terribly from cat allergies and has reduced his symptoms without the need for antihistamine when he comes to visit me.

The Dyson Pure Cool Air Purifier is perfect for the bedroom. Put on night-time mode, which limits the fan strength t 4 or less and dims the LED display on the front. It’s impossible for me to say exactly how well the Pure Cool is removing air pollution from my room, however, I have been sleeping very well since a week of using it. And, when I wake during the night from a hot flush or night sweat the gentlest of silky breezes lulls me back to sleep.
