A wreath is a wonderful way of welcoming guests to your home and brightening up your front door. And it’s not just Christmas when you might want to hang up a wreath. There are now so many different types that if you really wanted, you could have one up all year round.

Once you’ve picked (or even DIY-ed!) your wreath of choice, next comes the job of actually hanging it on your door, which can leave many of us scratching our heads. Now none of us wants to damage our doors, so how do you hang a wreath on a door without causing any damage?

To help you out, we’ve got three different ways for you to hang a wreath on a door, without causing any damage.

A wreath hook

If you weren’t already aware, you can buy a specific hook for your wreath which sits over the top of your door, so you can get your wreath up in seconds. These are a favourite choice because they’re so easy to use and you can pick out different finishes to suit your door. One of the simplest ways to display your wreath, there are a few things to check before buying your hook:

The weight: if possible, weigh your wreath so you can be sure your hanger can hold its weight. Most wreath hooks and hangers can hold at least five pounds in weight.

The thickness of your door: This is to ensure your hook will fit the door width.

Self-adhesive hooks

Another easy option, self-adhesive hooks are cheap to buy and straightforward to use. They hold strongly but remove quickly and cleanly without leaving holes, marks, stains or sticky residues. You should clean your door to remove any grease or grime, ensuring that the hook has as best grip possible. Then simply remove the backing, position the strip centrally on your door and then press the hook onto the strip to secure it. Then it's simply a case of hanging your wreath onto the hook!

Ribbon

If you’ve got some ribbon lying around the house, why not use it to hang your wreath? You can even pick out a specific ribbon that matches your wreath or Christmas decor. You’ll want a strong and durable ribbon that can hang your wreath with no issues. Here's how to do it...

  1. Standing behind your door, attach a command hook upside down at the top centre.

  2. Measure out your ribbon of choice to 48″ or longer. Cut the ribbon and fold it in half to find the centre.

  3. Holding the ribbon at its centre, thread it through your wreath.

  4. Using a ladder or chair (unless you’re tall enough!) to stand behind your door, place your wreath in position on the front of your door then close the door while still holding onto the ribbon.

  5. Spread the two ribbon pieces apart on either side of the command hook and tie the ribbon like you would shoelaces and pull it tight underneath the hook.
