What our reviewer said

The prospect of purchasing a new mattress and transporting it from the shop, to your home, up the stairs and into your bedroom can often seem like a mammoth task. However, we all know the importance of getting a good night’s sleep, and depending on how comfy and supportive your mattress is, it’s recommended by The Better Sleep Council that we should change our mattress every seven to ten years.

When it comes to simplicity, the Emma Mattress comes in a compact box, taking the hassle out of purchasing a new mattress. It arrived in a fairly small box for a king-size mattress, but although it was small, it wasn’t particularly light, meaning help was needed when getting it inside the house and up the stairs.

I thought the mattress would spring out of the box as soon as I opened it, however it didn’t. Inside the box, the mattress is compressed to be quite flat, then rolled up in plastic which then needs to be cut open using the small sharp blade provided. The mattress then slowly starts to inflate itself as you roll it out on the bed

It’s important to leave the mattress for a few hours before sleeping on it to allow it to breath and fully inflate. Then it is free to be slept on. The process of delivery and setting up the mattress is so simple – this is by far the best thing about this mattress and perfect if you’re looking for ease and simplicity with just a one to three-day delivery time. Also, with many mattresses, it is required to flip it regularly in the first month or so. However, with the Emma Mattress there is no need – another reason that it is so simple!

The comfort of the mattress isn’t compromised either and the supportive foam really improved my partners quality of sleep after years of struggling with back and shoulder pain. This makes it ideal if you experience aches and pains and find it hard to get comfy. Unlike a spring mattress, there’s no loud noises of spring coils popping or noises when moving in the night.

The one thing I did notice on the first night we slept on the mattress was the smell – the mattress certainly has that new mattress odour causing me to wake up a few times unsure of why it smelt. After a day of leaving the windows open however for the new mattress to breathe a little more, the smell quickly disappeared. For this reason, it may be a good idea to leave it for a whole day before sleeping on it.

In terms of upkeep, this mattress is perfect if you accidently spill something on it, as the top and bottom layer of the mattress can be simply unzipped from one another and popped in the washing machine, meaning you don’t have to spend hours soaking a stain out or flip the mattress.

If you tend to be quite fussy about your mattress, Emma offer a 100 Night Sleep Trial, meaning after 100 nights, you are able to return your mattress if you’re not fully satisfied. If you are happy with your mattress, you can sleep soundly in the knowledge that your Emma Mattress comes with a 10-year warranty for its stability and durability
