Finding the perfect Christmas gifts for grandkids can be a joyful but challenging task, especially when you're trying to stick to a budget.
While the gift of money is often appreciated, there’s something really special about giving an actual gift to the grandkids that makes Christmas that little bit more special. But with so many choices out there, it’s hard to know where to start—or whether your carefully chosen present will light up their faces on Christmas morning.
As a mum of three teenagers and an auntie to eight, all aged between 0-24, I’ve faced this dilemma time and again. That’s why I’ve put together this guide to the best Christmas gifts for grandkids for every age group, from babies to teenagers.
Each of these gifts are under £35, proving you don’t need to spend a fortune to have a Merry Christmas with the younger members of your family.
Below, we've rounded up the best deals on Christmas gifts for grandkids of all ages. These are based on the toys our children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren have all enjoyed over the years. We hope you enjoy browsing as much as we've enjoyed selecting!
Best Christmas gifts for grandkids ages 0-3 years
My children had this book when they were small and I also bought one for my baby niece last year. It's just so much fun. The book sings as you turn the pages. It's bright, cheery, and little ones absolutely love it. It makes the perfect gift for a baby.
This play and learn table is a perfect gift for a small baby as it'll really last. When baby is very small, you can just use the activity centre on the top, so they can sit up and play with it. As they grow, and begin to pull to standing, you can add the legs making it the perfect little play station.
Little ones love to emulate what they see us doing, and my 3 all enjoyed this driving toy. They used it at home when they could sit and then as they got bigger it also came with us in the car. With fun sound effects and bright colours it's a gift that'll last.
Best Christmas gifts for grandkids ages 3-5 years
I feel I should apologize for the inclusion of this Fingerling but if I've had to put up with it then so should you. Finglerlings are cute little interactive pets that respond to being stroked, tickled, burped, bounced and more. Some (me) might say annoying, but I will admit there's something really sweet about seeing little ones being so loving towards a toy, and trust me, they'll love this.
For young children, learning dexterity is invaluable. This wooden beads set, from quality brand Melissa and Doug, is great for teaching fine motor skills but loads of fun at the same time. Get ready to wear multiple necklaces!
I can't tell you a child that hasn't loved a fishing game! This wooden one from Cool Joy is so much fun. I love the different fruits, ladybirds and fish. Wooden toys are always built to last too. This has endless possibilities.
You probably remember the joy of doing giant floor puzzles with your own children, so why not extend that fun to the grandkids as well? And let me tell you, dinosaurs are IN. I have that on good authority from my tiny niece!
Best Christmas gifts for grandkids ages 5-8 years
Sometimes you don't need to know what it is, just that's very popular and on a good offer! Hatchimals are HUGE. Extremely popular with younger children they basically just hatch and respond to the owner's love. No, I don't really understand the fuss either, but I do know I've spent a small fortune on them! So when there's an offer on it is worth grabbing.
I didn't know what this was, and had to ask my son! However, it really is a great toy for digital kids in a digital world. Stitch - and indeed Disney - is always a popular buy, and this little box has 30 digital Disney characters that respond to tilts, taps and swipes. Perfect for those age 5-8 years.
This magnetic tile set does say suitable for 3 plus, but in my experience, older children get much better value out of it. My children have had magnetic tiles and I've also gifted them to friend's children too. They're full of endless possibility and encourage imaginative play.
Best Christmas gifts for grandkids ages 8-11 years
Oh how we love Bananagrams! This game is a total classic and will last well into teenage years and beyond! It's fun for the whole family but ideal for older children who have a grasp of words and spelling and like a challenge. We play it so much, and it's great for taking on holiday or playing as a family at Christmas.
The classics are always the best! Operation is the perfect family game for Christmas and will really make children laugh - and those belly laughs are always the best! There's a reason Operation has stood the test of time; it's easy to play, good for all the family and so much fun.
Best Christmas gifts for grandkids ages 11-14 years

Jenga
Who doesn't love Jenga? The perfect Christmas game, older kids/ tweens will also enjoy playing this with their friends. And it lives on and on - the Jenga I bought my nephew is now at University with him.
Thank me later. You will be the BEST grandparent if you buy this for your grandkids this Christmas. Their parents might not thank you, but that's the joy of being a grandparent! This laser tag set is so much fun for big kids and will entertain them for hours.
Now, you might not appreciate this gift as much as your grandchild, but they'll be very pleased. This little karaoke machine has 2 mics and is easily portable so great for taking to friend's houses. In fact, you might want to encourage that!

Children never grow out of LEGO - fact! Both my boys, at 16 and 15, have LEGO on their Christmas list, and this Baby Groot ties in nicely with their love for all things Marvel.
We are all huge fans of the TV show in my house, and this 1% Club Board game is definitely on our Christmas list. I especially love it as the questions don't rely on knowledge and are instead made up of various logic or reasoning puzzles. This means all of us, from 15 to 44, are on equal footing.
I bought this for my niece when she was at university. It was ideal for keeping a mug of tea or hot chocolate warm while she studied. you just plug it in and it has 2 different temperature settings to choose from, keeping drinks warm for hours.

I've saved the best til last. This is hands-down the best gift I ever bought. In the year everyone was saying they didn't know what to get my 19 year old nephew, I found this. Perfect for a season ticket holder that travels to away games a lot (as he does), this fun poster lets the user scratch off a new stadium each time they visit. A lovely unique gift.
How much should a grandparent spend on each grandchild for Christmas?
This will depend, of course, on your budget. However, there are a few golden rules that are worth bearing in mind.
- Never go into debt trying to prove how much you love someone. I can't take credit for this, it came from Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis, but it's a mantra I always try to keep in mind. If finances are tight, please remember that your grandchildren won't care! There are always great deals to be had to suit any budget and there are some great ideas that cost literally pennies but can be equally as special as a wrapped gift beneath the tree:
* Baking with your grandchildren - My poor mum somehow manages to shoehorn in baking sessions for 8 grandchildren over Christmas! The little ones decorate biscuits or cakes, while the older ones are actually useful and help prep for the big day. It's a special time that they all love.
* A visit to Christmas lights followed by hot chocolate - You've probably all got a road or house near you that goes all out on the decs. Some of my children's favourite Christmas memories are being taken out in their pyjamas after dark to look at the lights, then going to Nanny and Grandad's for hot chocolate.
* Nativity or Crib service - Often held on Christmas Eve, these services are particularly magical for little ones, and make the whole family feel festive.
*Jolabokflod - Iceland's book-giving tradition is a great thing to start with your own family, and everyone can participate!
* Secret Santa - If your family is particularly large, why not consider a secret Santa? That way, the recipient gets a higher cost, well thought out gift, but the pressure to overspend buying for multiple people is gone.
* Christmas craft - My children's grandparents have given me some much needed peace over the festive season by having them for a few hours and making decorations with them. Your children will thank you and the little ones will love every second!
Don't spend more than their parents do! Unless it's pre-agreed (eg you're taking the family on a trip), don't outspend the parents. As you'll remember when your own children were small, you work hard to save for Christmas gifts, and the last thing you want is a grandparent swooping in with a bigger, fancier gift, however well-meaning.
