Keeley Hawes, who has recently starred in Channel 4's Falling, is back in action as Prime Video has released the first look at the return of her thriller The Assassin, along with fresh details about what we can expect from season two.
The new run of the series has been described as “terrific fun”, with Keeley once again leading the story as Julie Green, along with Freddie Highmore as her son, Edward Green.
Season two picks up after a chaotic trip to Berlin, which sees the central characters heading home following what’s described as a “disastrous” getaway. But things are far from settled, with relationships left strained and tensions still running high.
Julie is also not quite done with her past as an assassin, with the new season seeing her slip back into old habits while juggling something far more unexpected - dating.
Elsewhere, Edward’s honeymoon doesn’t go to plan, pulling him back into Julie’s world just as things start to unravel again. The pair are soon drawn into a dangerous job involving Spain’s criminal underworld, forcing them to work together once more.
Whether they can survive the mission - and repair their fractured relationship - remains to be seen.
Alongside the story details, Prime Video has also released a set of first-look images teasing the tone of the new season, hinting at a bigger, globe-trotting story with more action and tension than before.
New cast members joining the series include After the Flood star Jacqueline Boatswain and Emily in Paris actor Arnaud Binard.
The drama is created by writing duo Harry and Jack Williams, best known for The Missing and Baptiste, with their trademark mix of fast-paced storytelling and character-driven drama once again at the forefront.
Keeley Hawes has shared her excitement bout returning for the new season, saying: “I can’t wait to step back into Julie’s world. To reunite with Freddie and our extraordinary cast, and to dive deeper into Julie’s life and her complicated relationship with Edward, is a privilege. There is so much more to uncover, and audiences are in for a treat.”
The Assassin season two is expected to arrive on Prime Video in 2026.
