Susan Calman is a Scottish stand-up comedian and presenter. She’s appeared on numerous BBC Radio 4 shows, including The News Quiz and I’m Sorry I Haven’t Got a Clue and has even hosted her own TV shows, including her programme on Channel 5, Susan Calman’s Grand Week by the Sea.

Susan was born on 6 November 1974, currently making her 47 years old.

Was Susan Calman a lawyer?

She was! Before her comic life, Susan was a successful corporate lawyer and even worked on Death Row in America and the United Nations in Geneva.

However, dissatisfied with her career, she decided to pursue comedy at the age of 30 and reached the semi-finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards and became a finalist in the ‘Funny Women’ competition.

Susan went on to appear on a number of BBC Radio 4 shows from The News Quiz to The Unbelievable Truth and So Wrong it’s Right, as well as presenting on Woman’s Hour and hosting her own award-winning radio series, Susan Calman is Convicted.

She’s taken part as a panellist on TV shows from 8 Out of 10 Cats, to Mock of The Week and even had a cameo in Fresh Meat, back in 2013.

In 2017 she decided to take to the dance floor on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and more recently has been presenting her latest programme Cruising with Susan Calman, on Channel 5 which she took over from former presenter Jane McDonald.

Is Susan Calman married?

Susan is married to fellow lawyer, Lee Cormack. The couple became civil partners in 2012 and married in 2015.

Speaking about her marriage Suan said: “Being married does make a difference. I don’t like it when people say it’s just a bit of paper. Not to me, it isn’t. And anyway, it’s something gay people fought for over many years.”

Does Susan Calman have a baby?

Susan and Lee don’t have children together.

However, the couple do share five rescue cats called Pickle, Daisy Fay Harper, Olivia Pope, Dr Abigail Bartlet and DCI Jane Tennison.

Back in 2021, Susan bagged a new TV series with Channel 5, Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out, and it was such a hit that there have already been three series.

The show sees Susan venture off to different destinations across the UK in her beloved vintage campervan, called ‘Helen Mirren’, to see what excitement each place has to offer.

Big Antique Adventure with Susan Calman

Susan's latest show Big Antique Adventure with Susan Calman sees her immerse herself in the antiques industry. Over five episodes, Susan will “find out all there is to know about this multi-million pound trade – covering everything from valuing Britain’s secret stashes, separating the trash from the treasure, spotting the antiques of the future, and even making a few quid for Charity along the way.” It will air on Channel 5, from Monday May 30 to Friday June 3 2022, at 7pm each night.
