Emmerdale fans are in for a huge surprise as Patsy Kensit is set to reprise her iconic role as Sadie King later this year.
Sadie – the glamorous, scheming ex-wife of Jimmy King – first swept into the Yorkshire Dales in 2004, memorably arriving by helicopter. With her icy glare, seductive charm and ruthless ambition, she quickly became one of the soap’s most unforgettable villains.
During her original stint, Sadie was at the heart of some of the show’s most dramatic storylines. From a devastating house explosion to high-stakes affairs with a young Robert Sugden and bad boy Cain Dingle, she left chaos in her wake at every turn.

Her tangled love life saw her betray Jimmy and embark on a romance with his brother Matthew King, while also conducting a dangerous liaison with Cain. In one of her most explosive plots, Sadie and Cain kidnapped Tom King and demanded a ransom. But in true soap fashion, the plan backfired spectacularly when Cain double-crossed her, stole the money and left her with nothing – marking Sadie’s dramatic exit in 2006.
Now, nearly two decades on, she’s heading back to the village – and producers are promising fireworks.
Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Patsy Kensit back to the cast and crucially to see the iconic Sadie King storm back into the village. Her return will be explosive and guaranteed to shock. Sadie’s seductive demeanour, combined with her utterly ruthless nature, is set to deliver a spectacular and highly dramatic touch of class to the Yorkshire Dales.”
Patsy herself is equally excited about stepping back into Sadie’s stilettos.
“I am really excited to return to Emmerdale. I treasure the years I was here before. Sadie King is a character that I really loved playing,” she said. “The cast and crew are absolutely brilliant and I am so grateful for the chance to return to the show – it’s absolutely amazing.”
According to reports in The Sun, Patsy’s comeback has been shrouded in secrecy, with bosses keen to keep the twist under wraps to maximise the shock factor for viewers. A source told the publication that the actress is “delighted to get her teeth back into the meaty role,” adding that scriptwriters are determined to keep the show packed with explosive plots and divisive characters.
Sadie’s return is sure to send shockwaves through the village. She shares a complicated romantic history with Jimmy and Cain, as well as with Robert Sugden – now played by Ryan Hawley – after their brief fling in the mid-2000s.
Her biggest nemesis, Charity Dingle, remains a central figure in the Dales, and it’s safe to say Sadie won’t be welcomed back with open arms by the rest of the Dingle clan, including Chas. There’s also unfinished business with the Tate family. Sadie once forced Zoe Tate to hand over Home Farm to the Kings, costing Joe Tate his childhood home. And while she never crossed paths with Kim Tate before, the prospect of those two formidable women going head-to-head is already tantalising fans.

Patsy’s portrayal of Sadie cemented her status as a fan favourite, earning her Inside Soap Awards in both 2005 and 2006. Since leaving Emmerdale, she has appeared in a host of high-profile roles, including nurse Faye Morton in Holby City and Emma Harding in EastEnders, as well as film credits such as Lethal Weapon 2.
But for many viewers, she will always be Sadie King – and with her dramatic return on the horizon, it looks like the Queen of Home Farm is ready to reclaim her crown.
