If you’ve been hooked on the BBC’s gritty Belfast police drama Blue Lights, you’re not alone. After two intense seasons packed with gritty new drama, real-life policing pressures and heartfelt moments, fans are eagerly asking: Will there be a series 3 of Blue Lights?

The answer is yes - and it’s already in the works!

What is Blue Lights about?

For those just discovering the show, Blue Lights follows a group of rookie police officers navigating life on the beat in Belfast. But this isn’t your typical cop show. It’s raw, human and deeply rooted in the realities of modern-day policing in Northern Ireland.

How many Blue Lights have been made?

There are currently two series of Blue Lights available to watch on BBC iPlayer. Series one was a huge hit when it launched in 2023, praised for its gripping storylines and realistic portrayal of policing in Belfast. Following the success of series two in 2024, the BBC confirmed that a further two series have been commissioned, meaning that Blue Lights series three and four are officially on the way!

What's the plot for series 3 of Blue Lights?

The BBC have shared an intriguing synopsis for the upcoming series of Blue Lights; check it out: "Two years into their jobs as response officers, Grace, Annie and Tommy are accustomed to life under the blue lights.

"But their work will take them into a sinister world hidden behind the veneer of middle-class life, the world of the accountants and lawyers who facilitate organised crime.

"The old political and criminal order has gone and a new global gang rule Belfast, bringing danger closer to home for our officers than ever before."

When will Blue Lights series 3 be released?

While the BBC hasn’t confirmed an exact release date, filming for series 3 reportedly began in 2024. Based on the previous schedule, an autumn 2025 release looks likely if all goes to plan.

How many episodes of Blue Lights is there?

So far, a total of twelve episodes of Blue Lights have been released - six in each of the first two series. The upcoming season will also have six episodes.

Who creates Blue Lights?

Blue Lights was created by Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, and it’s produced by Two Cities Television and Gallagher Films.

For season three, the first three episodes of the six-part series will be directed by Jack Casey, while the final three are in the hands of actor and director Angela Griffin, who you might know her from Waterloo Road, Coronation Street or The Wives.
