Fans of cosy crime, rejoice. The fourth season of Beyond Paradise will air at 8pm on Friday 27 March on BBC One and BBC iPlayer with further episodes to continue weekly.

Regular viewers will have taken to this new phase in the loves of Kris Marshall's DI Humphrey Goodman and his fiancée Martha Lloyd, (Sally Bretton). After waving goodbye to the Caribbean Saint Marie with its swathes of sandy beaches, exotic volcanic backdrop (and alarmingly high murder rate), Humphrey has a new life in the picturesque Devon village of Shipton Abbott, Martha’s hometown. Humphrey is working as an officer in the local police force and Martha is the proprietor of Ten Mile Kitchen, the local café

The comings and goings in Shipton Abbott are keeping Humphrey very busy, and in series 3 there was a poignant cliffhanger regarding Humphrey and Martha starting a family. This series, viewers can witness the investigations of the death of a novelist who predicted their demise, a stolen treasure map that suddenly reappears, and the alleged sighting of a vengeful mermaid lurking out at sea. If Humphrey and Martha wanted a quiet life they are to be disappointed!

There are some familiar faces in the cast – and some starry guest turns too. Here’s a guide to who’s who in Beyond Paradise, and a glimpse at the guest stars.

Kris Marshall is DI Humphrey Goodman

Who is DI Humphrey Goodman?

Accident prone and a bit disorganised, Humphrey arrived in Saint Marie to solve the murder of his predecessor Richard Poole (Ben Miller). He ended up staying on the island, and revealed a similar knack to Poole in solving crimes. He also fell in love with his detective sergeant Camile Bordey, who eventually left for a new job in Paris. He ends up reacquainting himself with Martha (Sally Bretton), a woman who he used to see in London. When a case brings him back to the UK, the pair decide to make a go of it, and he leaves paradise for a new life.

What else has Kris Marshall been in? It’s hard to believe the boyish Kris is 53 years old now (Apr 1, 1973). He first came to the public eye in My Family with Robert Lindsay and Zoe Wanamaker, playing Nick Harper, the son who was perennially laidback to the point of being horizontal. His comic turn in the romcom Love Actually as the sweet, slightly silly British student who believed his accent would be catnip to American girls won our hearts. He’s been a continuous presence on our TV screens, most notably joining the cast of Death in Parade in 2013.

Sally Bretton is Martha Lloyd

Who is Martha Lloyd? Martha is a rekindled old flame of Humphrey. Originally from Shipton Abbott, she returns with Humphrey after he leaves his job in Saint Marie to begin a new chapter of their lives together. Her local café and restaurant called Ten Mile Kitchen, and she would love to be a mum, but sadly had a miscarriage after IVF treatment.

What else has Sally Breton been in? You’ll know Sally from BBC’s Not Going Out where she played Lucy Adams opposite Lee Mack. You also might recognise her as Kim Alabaster in the BBC sitcom Green Wing. Sally had also appeared in the hit comedy The Office.

Zahra Ahmadi is DI Esther Williams

Who is DS Esther Williams? Esther is a Detective Sergeant working at the Shipton Abbott Police Station. Unlike Humphrey, Esther is a capable and ambitious local officer who already knows the community well. Initially unsure about Humphrey’s unconventional style, she quickly proves to be a strong investigative partner. She balances his eccentric, theory-heavy approach with grounded police work and directness.

What else has Zahra Ahmadi been in? As well as appearing in dramas such as Silent Witness, Zahra played Shabnam Masood in EastEnders. She was also in The Bay.

Dylan Llewellyn is PC Kelby Hartford

Who is PC Kelby Hartford? A young, enthusiastic police constable working alongside DI Humphrey Goodman and DS Esther Williams, PC Kelby is keen to prove himself. He takes his duties seriously and often approaches cases with enthusiasm, even when he lacks experience. He can be nervy, but he cares.

What else has Dylan Llewellyn been in? Dylan came into the spotlight as Martin “Jono” Johnson in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks. Perhaps he’s best known as James Maguire, the socially awkward English student, in the hit Channel 4 sitcom Derry Girls. More recently he starred as Jack in Channel 4’s critically acclaimed comedy Big Boys, a coming-of-age series inspired by writer Jack Rooke’s life. He also took part in Celebrity Race Across the World.

Barbara Flynn is Anne Lloyd

Who is Anne Lloyd? Anne Lloyd is Martha Lloyd’s mother. Anne’s husband – and Martha’s father - has died and Martha comes down to Shipton Abbott to live in Anne's Cottage and keep an eye on her mother and be with her. She is a thoughtful, intelligent, and sometimes forthright character who has a close relationship with her daughter.

What else has Barbara Flynn been in? You probably recognise the actress, but where from? Barbara has had a long and distinguished career across British television, film radio, and theatre. She played Judith Fitzgerald, the wife of Robbie Coltrane’s character, in Cracker and portrayed Miss Deborah Jenkyns in the BBC’s Cranford, alongside Judi Dench and Imelda Staunton. More recently, she appeared in Killing Eve.

Felicity Montagu is Margo Martins

Who is Margo Martins? Margo works as the office support at Shipton Abbott Police Station. She is highly organised, efficient, and takes great pride in keeping the station running smoothly. Margo often acts as the administrative backbone of the team, handling paperwork, logistics, and procedures with meticulous attention to detail.

What else has Felicity Montagu been in? Alan Partridge fans will clock Felicity as Lynn Benfield, the long suffering but devoted assistant to Steve Coogan’s character in I’m Alan Partridge and Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa. She also starred as Perpetua in Bridget Jones’ Diary and appeared as Mrs. Mainwaring in Dad’s Army, the 2016 film adaptation.

Jamie Bamber is Archie Hughes

Who is Archie Hughes? Archie is Martha’s former fiancé and business partner, co-owning Ten Mile Kitchen in Shipton Abbott. Archie is charming, confident, and successful, which makes him an immediate contrast to Humphrey’s diffident and accident-prone character. The fact Martha and Archie have history can be a little awkward.

What else has Jamie Bamber been in? Jamie first came to prominence as 2nd Lieutenant Jack Foley in the ITV drama series Hornblower. He gained international recognition for his role as Lee “Apollo” Adama in the series of Battlestar Galactica. He’s been in various dramas, including Marcella.

Melina Sinadinou is Zoe Williams

What else has Melina Sinadinou been in? Melina trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, one of the UK’s leading drama schools. Her recent roles have included The Terminal List: Dark Wolf with Taylor Kitsch as and Chris Pratt.

Eva Feiler is Lucy Thompson

Who is Lucy Thompson? Lucy is a nurse and while not part of the police team, she is very involved in the local community of Shipton Abbott and crosses paths with DI Humphrey and his team.

What else has Eva Feiler been in? You’ll know Eva from series 4 of The Crown. She played a young Margaret Thatcher. She also portrayed Joselyn O'Donnell in BBC One daytime crime series Father Brown.

Phil Daniels as Marvelous Harris

Who is Marvelous Harris? Marvelous Harris is a grizzly local boatman who assists DI Humphrey Goodman.

What else has Phil Daniels been in? Film buffs will know Phil from iconic British movies from the 70s and 80s such as Scum and Breaking Glass. He also played Kevin Wicks in Eastenders and has appeared in New Tricks, Silent Witness, Midsomer Murders. Phil also gave his vocals to Blur’s track Parklife.

Who else is in Beyond Paradise?

You’ll also spot Melanie Walters, known for playing Gwen in the much-loved Gavin & Stacy. Iconic actress Susan George and Alex Macqueen from The Inbetweeners are a couple of the guest stars who will also pop up.
