Cosyfeet, the company that makes extra-wide footwear for swollen feet, is offering an annual Community Award of £500. It’s available to registered charities or not-for-profit organisations working on projects within Britain that support and enrich older people’s lives.
Regenerate-RISE, which aims to eradicate loneliness and isolation among older people, were the proud winners of last year’s Cosyfeet Community Award. They used the award to help fund a ‘Dream Wall’, where people are encouraged to write their ‘dream’ on the wall and sponsorship is then raised to cover the costs of making that dream a reality.
So far, money from the Cosyfeet Community Award has been used to help fund riding lessons for a man with learning difficulties, a cinema trip with popcorn for an elderly gentleman who hadn’t been to the pictures in years, and a shopping trip with lunch for an elderly lady.
The idea for the award came about as Cosyfeet noticed may of their customers were over 65, an age group often affected by loneliness and isolation. With this in mind, Cosyfeet decided to support one initiative for older people each year with the Cosyfeet Community Award.
“It might be a friendship group, a lunch club, a telephone befriending service, an exercise class or even a special interest group – anything that helps older people feel part of their community," says Managing Director Andrew Peirce
