Barbie and Sindy have had a grown-up make-over, complete with grey hair and 50+ figures. What do you think of them?
Fashion retailer JD Williams has issued a challenge to the makers of the two dolls (Mattel and Pedigree) urging them to create updated versions of the dolls to reflect their true ages. Barbie, 'born' in 1959 has just turned 57, while Sindy is 53 - although of course you wouldn't know it to see them in toy shops.
“We think it is about time these iconic dolls were given a fresh look based on their actual ages," says Suzi Burns, PR Manager, JD Williams. "Entering your fifties is something to be celebrated. Fashion and style has no age limit and we’re certain that Barbie and Sindy will be as glamorous and style conscious now as they were 30 years ago.
“We await with anticipation the response from Mattel and Pedigree. We wonder who will respond first, and who knows, maybe we could use our expertise and help style them with a bespoke wardrobe."
And this is Sindy:
