Fans of the ITV drama will be delighted to hear that the series has been re-commissioned for a fourth series. Keeley Hawes will reprise her role as matriarch Louisa Durrell for a brand-new six-part season, which will see Josh O’Connor, Callum Woodhouse, Daisy Waterstone and Milo Parker return as her on-screen kids Larry, Leslie, Margo and Gerry.
Victoria Fea, ITV’s senior drama commissioner, said: "'The Durrells' has proven immensely popular with viewers and critics alike, so we’re thrilled to have commissioned another series.
"Simon Nye’s writing is witty, big-hearted and hugely engaging, so we’re looking forward to seeing what the fourth series has in store."
Greek actor Alexis Georgoulis will also be back as chauffeur and love interest, Spiros. Simon Nye will return to write the fourth series of the show, which is based on conservationist and author Gerald Durrell’s trilogy of books about his family’s time in Corfu in the 1930s.
In March, Keeley admitted women don't mind if their husbands want to leave them for her loveable 'Durrells' character Louisa. She said: "It is flattering. And Louisa is not glamorous or anything.
"But it's also a very nice reaction from their wives, because they go, 'Yeah if you are going to leave me it's all right to leave me for Louisa Durrell.' "
Much to Keeley's surprise, the show has also attracted younger viewers. Keeley said: "My daughter had friends over. One went, 'Are you Mrs Durrell?' It was so sweet and weird.
"Another time I was at Corfu airport when a lady said, 'We've been searching for you for 10 days and now we've found you.' People look for our locations."

Series three of The Durrells
If, like us, you’ve loved watching the antics of a young Gerald Durrell and his family (and, of course, other animals!) you’ll be pleased to know that there’s a new series that's just started
The hit ITV series, which stars Keely Mills as Gerry’s mum and is packed with animal stars, has just returned for series three.
Josh O’Connor, who plays older brother Lawrence in the biopic series, which is based on the book My Family and Other Animals, appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about the show.
“The Durrells is coming back soon, very soon,” he said. “It’s amazing. We’ve got to spend two and a half months for the last three years in Corfu and just hang out.”
When you factor in the sunny days and cute animal co-stars, it really does sound like a dream job!
Josh is a real young talent, as fans of the series will know, and has been nominated for BAFTA’s Rising Star Award, so we’re crossing our fingers for him.
The Durrells started back in 2016 and follows the life of the Durrell family over their four years on the island, from 1935 – 1939. One of the reasons for its accuracy – as well as the rich source material available in Gerald Durrell’s books – is that his widow Lee Durrell acted as a consultant for the series.
We last saw the family, at the end of series two, in a rather dramatic episode which saw human babies, otter cubs and a stabbing! We can’t wait to find out what else is in store - and which adorable animals will have us 'ahhing'.
