If, like us, you’ve loved watching the antics of a young Gerald Durrell and his family (and, of course, other animals!) you’ll be pleased to know that there’s a new series just around the corner.
The hit ITV series, which stars Keely Mills as Gerry’s mum and is packed with animal stars, will be returning for series three soon, as confirmed by one of its cast in an interview.
Josh O’Connor, who plays older brother Lawrence in the biopic series, which is based on the book My Family and Other Animals, appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about the show.
“The Durrells is coming back soon, very soon,” he said. “It’s amazing. We’ve got to spend two and a half months for the last three years in Corfu and just hang out.”
When you factor in the sunny days and cute animal co-stars, it really does sound like a dream job!
Josh is a real young talent, as fans of the series will know, and has been nominated for BAFTA’s Rising Star Award, so we’re crossing our fingers for him.
The Durrells started back in 2016 and follows the life of the Durrell family over their four years on the island, from 1935 – 1939. One of the reasons for its accuracy – as well as the rich source material available in Gerald Durrell’s books – is that his widow Lee Durrell acted as a consultant for the series.
We last saw the family, at the end of series two, in a rather dramatic episode which saw human babies, otter cubs and a stabbing! We can’t wait to find out what else is in store - and which adorable animals will have us 'ahhing'.
