Alongside Sir Cliff Richard OBE, the event has been backed by award-winning actress Lindsay Duncan and television medic Dr Pixie McKenna.
The Big Walk includes a choice of two routes, with the main 10km challenge leading walkers along the banks of the River Cam, and a family-friendly 5km route allowing fundraisers to explore Milton Country Park’s picturesque walking trails. Walkers can bring a picnic and will be able to enjoy a range of entertainment at the end of the route, including live music and children’s activities.
Sir Cliff, who has helped boost awareness of dementia after seeing his mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s, said:
“During my time as Patron of Alzheimer’s Research UK I have been amazed by the ground-breaking dementia research funded by the charity. So many families in the UK, mine included, are affected by Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Alzheimer’s Research UK relies almost entirely on public support to fund its pioneering research. This condition is truly devastating, but the answer will be found through research. The Big Walk is a fun, healthy and sociable way of raising funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK to invest in further research.”
Alzheimer’s Research UK’s Big Walk starts at 10am on Sunday 13 July from Milton Country Park, Milton, CB24 6AZ. To take up the challenge visit www.bigwalk.org, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0300 111 5 777. All participants are encouraged to raise sponsorship for the challenge.
