After the recent news that Poldark will be returning for a fifth series, Aiden Turner - who has played the character Ross Poldark in the drama series since 2015 - has disappointed fans across the nation after he said that the programme probably won't get another instalment after the fifth series in 2019.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said: "I think next year might be the last one, certainly for a while. There's a huge gap in the books, about 15 years."
And the 34-year-old actor has no interest in "ageing up" to move the story along faster, but he'd be willing to revisit it in 10 years' time when he's a decade older.
He added: "I wouldn't age up, I'd come back in 10 years. I'd revisit it the right way."
Poldark series five confirmed
Poldark fans will be thrilled to hear that the popular BBC One show is set to return for another series. The upcoming series was announced by Eleanor Tomlinson who plays Demelza Poldark who shared a video message last night saying this:
"Hey everyone, I’m really sorry I can’t be there tonight at the BFI screening of series four, episode one. I’m unfortunately tied up filming ‘War of the Worlds’ at the minute so I’ve been running from aliens on a daily basis, which has been fun. I’m looking forward to some more cliff-staring which is actually why I’m sending this video message because I can confirm that we are going to make series five of ‘Poldark’. So exciting! Thank you so much for all your support. We wouldn’t have been there, we wouldn’t have made this show what it’s become without you guys so thank you for that."
Last year, Eleanor admitted she would love to see the show make it to a fifth series and said it would be a "dream come true" to play Demelza again.
"If we go to five series that would be a dream. We would be very lucky and honoured to get that far. I think if we go to five series then that would be a dream come true - and how many series have done that?"
We believe the fifth series of Poldark will be the last as star of the show, Aiden Turner, previously confirmed that it will end after the fifth series as all the stories have been covered.
He said: "We've covered all the books, and the entire stories. It's a five-year gig, when it's all done."
Poldark, series four
In the meantime, we can look forward to series four which is likely to be aired in early summer 2018. Aidan Turner has teased that the fourth series of 'Poldark' will be "tempestuous."
The third series ended on a cliffhanger as Ross Poldark (Aidan) and his wife Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) were left wondering whether they could save their relationship after Demelza gave into the temptation of the charming Hugh Armitage (Josh Whitehouse), while her spouse's attention was elsewhere.
While fans are no doubt hoping that the couple can work through their struggles, the 34-year-old actor has teased that the forthcoming series will start off "rocky." Speaking to the Radio Times magazine, he said: "They might start off a bit rocky and they might try to figure things out.
"It's a very real relationship, these things can happen in a marriage. I think we tackle it in a very real way. It's something an audience will understand."
