If you’re bored of old Morecambe and Wise tapes being repeated over Christmas, you’re in for a treat this year, as two episodes from their 1968 series will be broadcast over Christmas after 50-years of being lost.

Back in 1968, after ITV poached the comedy duo from the BBC, the BBC recorded over the top of these famous tapes and it was thought these recordings were lost forever. 50-years later, two episodes from the 1968 series have been found at a derelict cinema in Sierra Leone!

The man responsible for finding the tapes is archive preservation expert Phillip Morris who scoured the abandoned cinema after being advised the recorded tapes could still be there. Speaking to The Times, he said, “Inside this building there were old steel benches with stacks and stacks of films. Most were in a bad condition, but among these were two of the missing Morecambe and Wise episodes.”

The famous tapes will now travel the 4,000 mile trip from Sierra Leone to the UK just in time to be on our screens for Christmas!
