It's Australia Day! UK families reunited with Aussie relatives

January 26 is Australia Day - commemorating the establishment of the first ever European settlement on Australian soil.

In the run up to the event, Flight Centre UK set up The Big Aussie Reunion, treating 40 lucky Brits to the trip of a lifetime, meeting relatives on the other side of the world.

The company received thousands of applications, but they finally decided who to take to Oz based on some truly heartwarming stories. Winner Sandra Keating, from Southport, hadn't seen her brother David since he moved to Australia in 1984.

Anna Marriage, of Royston, Herts, was reunited with her long-lost father, Peter. It really was a life-changing experience, as she's gone from being an only child to having six siblings to boot!

Despite one in two British residents having a close friend or relative out in Australia, over a quarter of them haven't seen them in more than ten years. And, more than half of Australia's British visitors in 2014 went for the purpose of catching up with loved ones.
