On Friday 15th May 2015, Blue Cross pet charity is asking animal lovers and budding bakers all over the UK to host a Blue Cross tea party to help raise money for sick, injured and homeless pets.
Whether it’s at home, in the office or with friends at college, Blue Cross’s annual Paws For Tea means putting the kettle on and having a slice of your favourite cake has never been more rewarding.
Heather Collin, from the Blue Cross fundraising team, said: “Hit shows like The Great British Bake Off just go to show how popular cakes and baking are and, now in its ninth year, Paws For Tea is proving just as popular. The tea party is perfect for anyone who loves pets and baking. It’s a great excuse to invite friends and family round to sample your culinary delights while raising money for a good cause.”
Kitten Babybell (pictured below) is just one of 40,000 pets Blue Cross cared for last year across its four animal hospitals and 12 rehoming centres. At just four-weeks-old, Babybell was found with her leg caught in a mousetrap. Sadly the damage was so severe that it had to be amputated by charity vets, but after lots of TLC Babybell made a great recovery and found a happy new home.
Heather adds: “Blue Cross is a charity that doesn’t receive any government funding so events like Paws For Tea are vital in helping us raise money to help pets in need like Babybell.”
At £1 for a slice of cake, just five slices of cake would pay for a pet to be microchipped so it can be reunited with its owner should it go missing, and £10 raised would pay for a health check for a homeless, sick or abandoned pet to help us find them a happy new home.
Every penny raised will go towards the care of the animals at Blue Cross rehoming centres and animal hospitals. To order for a free Paws For Tea host pack, full of ideas and recipes, visit www.bluecross.org.uk/teaparty or call 0300 790 9903.
