Digital Editions Support: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a ‘digital magazine’?

A: It is a digital interpretation of a print publication that can be accessed via a tablet or smartphone. A digital magazine usually includes all the content of its printed counterpart. But it also offers the editorial teams the facility to add interactivity. By this, we mean video content, animations, extra picture galleries, extra features and so on.

At Bauer, we have almost 50 magazines available on tablet and phone. The amount of interaction in them will vary. The biggest titles – such as Grazia, Empire, CAR, Practical Photography, Digital Photo and Bike – have fully interactive versions available on some platforms. Other titles, including Yours, will be replicas of the print version, possibly with some enhancements in the form of video and picture galleries added.

Q: What platforms are our digital magazines currently available on?

A: The first place to point you is Great Magazines – – where you will find the best subscription deals. All our magazines will be on this website. Additionally, nearly all our titles are available on both Apple Newsstand and either Google Play Newsstand and / or as standalone apps on Google Play.

You’ll also find our titles now, or soon, on:

  • Nook
  • Kobo
  • PocketMags
  • Amazon
  • Zinio
  • Readly
  • Le Kiosk

If you can’t find a magazine, or would like to know if it’s on a specific platform, please email our support here: and we will help you.

Q: Which devices are our digital magazines available on?

A: You can get our digital magazines on virtually any device! Here’s the key information:

  • Apple devices: Nearly all our titles are available now for iPad and iPhone via Great Magazines.  Please go to and search. The best subscription deals for Apple device users will be available here as we control the platform – you shouldn’t find a digital magazine subscription cheaper anywhere else.

You can also buy single issues and subscriptions for our digital magazines on Apple Newsstand via your iTunes account if you’d prefer.  Simply go into the App Store and Newsstand on your device and search for your chosen magazine.

In the meantime, nearly all our titles are available for Android phones and tablets on either Google Play Newsstand and / or Google Play App Store.  Again, please go into Google Play Newsstand or Google Play and search.

  • Kindle Fire: Our titles will be launching on the Amazon store in early 2015.
  • Nook: Our top-selling titles are currently on sale on Nook Newsstand. We’ll be launching the remainder of our portfolio with them in early 2015.

If you can’t find a magazine, or would like to know if it’s on a specific platform, please email our support here: and we will help you.

Q: Do I need an internet connection to read my digital magazine?

A: You need to be online via WiFi to download an issue, or if you wish you can stream it via WiFi or your mobile network (though we don’t recommend this as it might result in additional charges for you from your mobile supplier).
Once downloaded, you can read your magazines offline. Just tap the ‘READ’ button.

Q: Can I download my digital issues more than once?

A: After you have purchased a digital magazine subscription, you may remove and redownload your issues from the app as many times as you like at no additional cost.

Q: I’m a subscriber but can’t access my back issues! Help!

A: If you purchased via Great Magazines, please email here and we’ll look into your account for you:
If you purchased via Apple iTunes, please try the following:

  • Close down all the apps running on your device
  • Do this by double-tapping the home ‘O’ button and swiping ‘up’ on displayed content
  • Ensure your app is connected to the same iTunes account you bought your sub with
  • Relaunch the app
  • Tap the icon in the top left of the screen to bring up the menu
  • Tap ‘Restore all purchases’ and wait, do not navigate away from the app

If this does not work, please email  with the following information: when your sub started/is due to end; your full name; your iTunes receipt and we will sort it out for you.

Q: The print version of the magazine has a cover-mounted gift, do I get the same gift with my digital version?

A: We apologise: any kind of physical gift attached to the front cover of a print magazine cannot be offered to purchasers of the digital version.

Q: Can I delete any of my digital issues?

A: Yes. Tap on the icon in the top left of the app OR the cog icon at the top right (depending on the app you have – it varies on some magazines). Tap on ‘Remove Issues’ to select which issues you would like to delete. Tap on ‘Restore All Purchases’ to re-access and download all previously deleted issues at a later date.

Q: When does the latest digital issue become available?

A: Please note that the latest digital issue may not become available on the same day and/or at the same time as your print copy. Usually, we aim to go live on the same day the print version appears in the shops. Some titles go live in advance of this, but usually only by a day or two.
