In quite a departure from his usual role – that of the potty-mouthed matriarch Agnes Brown in Mrs Brown’s Boys – Brendan O’Carroll is set to be the host of a brand new quiz show.
There is, however, one thing his new venture has in common with his comedy series – a streak of naughtiness: it’s called For Facts Sake…
The 61-year-old Irish comedian, who also writes Mrs Brown’s Boys as well as acting in it, will blend facts and humour in the panel show, which is set to air later this year on BBC One.
Brendan says: “I'm really excited to be doing a show where I don't have to wear a bra! When we did the pilot it was great fun, if we can capture that on the screen we are all in for a good time."
Just like Mrs Brown’s Boys, which stars members of Brendan’s real-life family, For Facts Sake will involve team captains from his home life, including his wife Jennifer Gibney, who plays Cathy Brown.
Did you know…? Back in 1999 a film called Agnes Browne (based on a novel by Brendan and with a screenplay written by him) was released, starring Anjelica Huston.
Brendan has been involved with Mrs Brown, as it were, since back in 1992 when he performed a short radio play called Mrs Browne’s Boys and wrote four books. He even put together a theatre company called Mrs Browne’s Boys and ended up dressing as a woman when an actress he’d hired didn’t turn up!
We’re keen to see him in a different light – albeit with his tongue still firmly in his cheek!
