According to Novotel, their hotels ‘offer a great central location, elegant and modern design, excellent dining facilities and fantastic wellbeing option.’ Novotel is also very accessible, as hotels are dotted around the UK from London, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Bristol, Manchester and more. They also have hotels near major UK airports – Birmingham, Heathrow, Newcastle, which is handy, especially during the start of the peak holiday season.

The Location.....

As it was our anniversary my husband and I chose to stay at the 4*Novotel Hotel, Paddington as it was a stone’s throw away from the lovely Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens and near to all the major sights (the nearest Underground being a 5 minute walk from it).

The hotel is on the doorstep of the Paddington Arm. The website  explains that the ‘Arm’ ‘connects Paddington to the main branch of the Grand Union Canal near Hayes, the arm slices through West London providing a green corridor frequented by both people and wildlife’ and this was plain to see, as soon as we got out from the Underground. As we walked to the hotel, the canal area was bustling with people admiring the canal boats (some of the boats were actually restaurants serving lunch, using local produce) and enjoying the coffee shops and restaurants. It had an almost lazy, Mediterranean feel to it and for a moment, we forgot we were in London! This was a welcome surprise!

The Hotel .....

After we were suitably impressed by the location, we approached the hotel which is flanked by new office blocks, which have green spaces dotted around the walk-ways - another welcome surprise.

The hotel itself is quite large, boasting 206 modern guest rooms and 11 disabled accessible rooms, restaurant and bar and a swimming pool, sauna a fitness centre available free to all guests. It has a very modern feel to it but rather than being overwhelming, it made us feel very at ease because the modern style has been done very tastefully, with the choice of colours, shapes and sense of space. Features such as touch-screen TVs allowing you to access information such as an Underground map, places to visit or eat, were very helpful. The staff were also very polite and helpful throughout our stay.

The Room and Breakfast .....

We stayed in an Executive Suite (as pictured) for two nights, which in keeping with the hotel, was clean, modern and very comfortable. This room boasts a wall-attached, wide-screen TV, Bose sound system! and all the other mod-cons you’d expect. For coffee lovers, the added Nespresso machine was a lovely touch. This room is a little over- priced for what we paid (even for London) and so, unless you are treating yourself (as we were), we’d suggest you consider one of the cheaper room options.

As for breakfast, we were very impressed and would even say it’s in our top 3 of the best we’ve had in the UK. We were greeted by the always-friendly and polite staff and escorted to our table. Tea and coffee was promptly served, the cutlery was clean and crisp. As for the buffet, I love variety and I love quality food and this is what we received! The variety of food was extensive, even serving in the hot breakfast section, vegetarian sausages to cater for ‘veggies’(I am not a ‘veggie’ by the way but had to try the sausages and they were very tasty!). It really did have everything….hot, cold, savoury or sweet, lean or a little naughty, it was all there! Children are also very well catered for and there was even a ‘game station’ tucked round the corner, so the children could go off and play as they waited for their adults to finish their breakfast.

In summary .....

We were very impressed by our Novotel experience and would not hesitate to consider staying in one again, especially if we were flying away on holiday or wanted to treat ourselves when visiting another UK hotspot. The staff are friendly, the food is great and the over-all feel for the hotel, modern, clean and comfortable.
