The capital can be great place to visit at Christmas time, but with an overwhelming number of food places to choose from, deciding on where to eat can often be a tricky affair.

Whether you’re looking for a gift, a special treat, or to simply escape the hustle and bustle of London’s busy streets, Westminster Abbey is the perfect spot to really enjoy the festive traditions this season has to offer. From 27th November, The Cellarium Café & Terrace will be launching its specially curated Christmas Afternoon Tea menu. Situated in the 14th century ancient cellars of the Abbey, guests can indulge in an assortment of classic treats with a unique festive twist. Delights include a mixture of savoury and sweet offerings, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

For the savoury-lover, highlights include the turkey coronation sandwich and the Brussel sprout and stilton tart, which bring together the best flavours of Christmas dinner in a simple, yet sophisticated way.

For those who like a touch of festive sugar and spice, the chocolate ganache topped gingerbread star will fill you with all the warmness you would expect from a Christmas cookie, as will the miniature Christmas cake. And last, but certainly not least, you can polish off warm scones, seasonal jam and clotted cream to perfectly round everything off.

The café includes two seating areas – the upstairs being a more contemporary setting looking out upon the outside Abbey, or downstairs, where one can feel suitably monastic amongst the cosy original brickwork of the cellar where monks once stored their food and wine.
