The best Google Assistant speakers

Sonos One1 of 5

Sonos One

Sonos is already known for offering premium sound with the ability to create a wireless audio network, and now it's added Google Assistant to the mix. We've chosen the entry-level Sonos One for this list, but there's a whole range of speakers you can use it on. The One is a great place to start your Sonos journey. Sound is great and the One will easily hear your commands, thanks to a far-field microphone array. And if you really like the Sonos One, you can pair two together. Review: "I bought one of these, and although impressed, knew instantly it would benefit from a second speaker to set up as a stereo pair. Other reviewers are right about sound quality and I have nothing to add, they sound sublime. I was so impressed that I bought a Sonos Beam, but will leave that for a less fortunate review..."

Google Nest Mini2 of 5

Google Nest Mini

One of the best-value Google Assistant speakers comes from the search giant itself. Now in its second generation, the Nest Mini gives you a very quick way to get almost all the features of some significantly more expensive speakers on this list. Sound quality is better than last time, as is voice recognition, but don't expect miracles. After all, the Nest Mini costs under £50, and at 42 x 98mm it'll struggle to fill a room with sound.Review: "The mini is great for anything and everything. All it takes is a voice. It is so simple to setup and use. Anything from alarm clock to music to put you to sleep any question you can think of it can usually answer, a perfect addition to your digital world I would not be without. I have one in every room - apart from the bathroom! It helps with everything I need. Recipes, ideas, notes, music, alarms, translations, and a lot lot more. Perfect addition to your digital world."

Google Nest Hub Max3 of 5

Google Nest Hub Max

Google's smartphones offer a great example of baked-in Assistant tech, and unsurprisingly its smart home products are no different. We had to add the Google Nest Hub Max to the list because while it's a fantastic speaker, it also has the added benefits of a smart display – so you can stream shows and easily control your home. Review: "With nest I connect with my 2 year old grandson and nothing could be better than that."

Google Home Max4 of 5

Google Home Max

Like the Google Nest Max, but don't really need the camera or touchscreen? For an even stronger focus on just audio with room-shaking, but balanced sound, we suggest the £299 Home Max. The flagship version of the Nest Mini, the Home Max features excellent speakers for powerful, room-filling sound. Google has used its tech prowess to boost sound performance: the Home Max uses machine learning to maximise and adapt its sound performance to its location in the room. That way you get the best possible sound, wherever you put it. Review: "Okay, this is a lot bigger and heavier than expected, however the weight keeps it firmly in place. It can be vertical or horizontal but the latter is definitely the way to go. The sound quality is top, top notch. Crystal clear detail and a bass depth that I've never experienced before, it really does fill the room. Despite the powerful sound, it never fails to pick up voice commands and all the functionality of Google Home is the same as any of their Google Home/Nest range."

BOSE Portable Wireless Multi-room Home Speaker5 of 5
